Reference-only entities (plugin API v9): a scene-scoped, in-memory
designation for plugin-owned display geometry, plus HostNotification
dispatch to native plugins so they can re-mark on DocumentOpened.
Resolves the new DeltaSnapshot site in block_editor.rs.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Per the upstream review of the XDATA-based storage: the host no longer writes
its own state into the saved file. The marker record under the host-owned OCS
APPID, the on-first-use APPID registration and the verbatim-EED rewrite
handling are removed; the single source of truth is a scene-scoped in-memory
set of entity handles (Scene::reference_only) that dies with the drawing tab,
so a reopened file starts undesignated and the owning plugin re-marks on the
document-opened notification.
All behaviour sites are unchanged, driven by the set: the wire stamp moves
from an XDATA read to a set lookup threaded through the tessellation
pipelines (tessellate_entity and the dimension text path take the handle set
as a plain parameter), and the pick filters, selection retains and
update/erase refusals read Scene::is_reference_only.
Undo keeps the entity-write contract: set mutations are recorded as explicit
first-touch before/after values on each history delta (the parametric-
constraints channel pattern). A designation inside a plugin push_undo scope
joins it, a scope-less change is one step of its own, an idempotent re-mark
records nothing, erasing a designated entity drops the set entry with the
entity, and undo/redo restores entity and designation together.
The round-trip test is inverted: reference_only_designation_is_not_written_
to_dwg_or_dxf now asserts the marker appears in neither format's bytes, that
no OCS APPID or marker record survives a reload, and that the designation
stays live in memory.
Every further reference to an already expanded block (a translated copy
of the same definition, at the top level or nested) was materialised as
a full copy of every wire, although the GPU already draws those copies
from one shared source with a per-copy offset. Such a copy is now a
single stub wire holding the shared prototype and its offset (stubs nest
inside prototypes, so nested repeats collapse too).
- The block renderer expands stubs into instance references while it
groups by source, so drawing is unchanged.
- Interaction queries expand only the stubs near the query, so snapping,
picking, window and crossing selection see each copy's geometry.
- Plot, boundary detection, viewport projection and entity_wires() get
fully expanded wires; count and reference-edit recolouring expand the
set while they are active.
- OCS_NO_BLOCK_STUBS turns it off.
A drawing with 480 references to a block of 100 nested 50-line blocks
(2.4M lines) now opens with 11k wires instead of 2.4M: peak memory
5.4 GB -> 0.37 GB, wire assembly 2.4 s -> 36 ms, interaction index
3.7 s -> 23 ms. The viewport, a plotted PDF, snaps and selections are
identical with and without stubs, and on five real drawings the view
renders the same.

Host side of HostApi::set_reference_only: plugin-owned display geometry that
renders and snaps normally but must not be edited or picked by the person at
the screen, while the owning plugin keeps full write access through the host.
- Storage: a human-readable marker value in an XDATA record under the
host-owned OCS APPID (registered on first use; foreign values survive
verbatim; stale verbatim DWG EED is dropped on rewrite), so the flag
round-trips DWG and DXF with the entity and cannot collide with plugin
APPID namespaces.
- Grips: refresh_selected_grips yields none for a reference-only entity and
an active grip edit on a newly designated target is cancelled like a
locked-layer one.
- Picking: a reference-only wire flag extends the snap_only skips in every
hit test, so a click passes through to the editable entity underneath, and
box, window, lasso, fence and select-all gathers skip the designation;
fills, solids and instanced meshes are excluded through the shared
candidate handle set.
- Write policy: built-in user paths treat a reference-only entity like a
locked-layer one (Scene::update_entity / update_entities refuse,
erase_entities skips), while the plugin-owned variants
(update_entity_plugin / erase_entities_plugin, mirroring the
remove_entities editor split) and the whole HostSession surface write
through. The MCP entities read exposes a top-level reference_only boolean
and set_properties refuses with the reference_only failure code.
- Undo: the entity-write contract - a change joins a plugin-opened push_undo
scope, a scope-less change is one undo step of its own, refusals and
idempotent re-marks record nothing.
- Known limit: entities nested inside block instances (the block cache
rebuilds instance wires without the flag).

A polyline with a thickness but no width is drawn as its extrusion edges
alone, and those edges were forced black (the outline colour meant for the
filled tube of a wide polyline). On a dark background the polyline looked
black and changing its colour did nothing. Only a wide polyline's tube
edges are black now.

Center and Quadrant found nothing on a polyline's bulge segments: the
lightweight and heavy polylines carried no snap points for them, and a
polyline split into several wires kept its points on one piece whose box
the others' never reached. Each arc segment now carries its centre and
quadrants, hovering the segment offers its centre, and a wire's box
covers its snap points.

DimensionPreview drew identical generic triangles regardless of dimblk/dimblk1/dimblk2. It now resolves each end through the shared arrow_from_block_name mapping (widened to pub(crate)) and draws per-end glyphs, keeping DIMTSZ tick precedence. Tests: arrow_name_mapping_covers_preview_kinds pins the shared contract; 2 preview_arrow_tests pin per-end resolution (RED first). Full suite: 1989 passed / 0 failed / 25 ignored.
- UPDATEFIELD stays the command main already had (Select objects, undo,
locale strings); it now takes the PR's reach — a block reference's
attributes and block definition, a table's cell texts — and reports
the fields that really changed. The PR's second implementation and its
duplicate registration are gone.
- FIELDEVAL's range error goes through the locale catalog.
- Field boxes: no slicing inside a character, one layout per multi-line
attribute, and TEXT boxes scale about the annotative reference point
like the glyphs do. Comment and indentation put back where they belong.
- bump_text_hosts classifies every host in one pass over the drawing
instead of scanning all layouts and blocks per host.

Layout glyph cells carry their unrotated cell, so a field box in rotated
MTEXT is placed exactly; multi-line attributes box each line of a field
from their own layout cells and single-line attributes split on \P per
line; shaped words (TrueType fonts, right-to-left and complex scripts)
take the shaper's glyph cells for their characters instead of evenly
divided slots. The field background is also drawn for text rendered as
shaped strokes.

Table cell fields show their stored value; only formula cells evaluate
live. UPDATEFIELD on a block reference also updates the fields of its
block definition, and on a table the fields of its cells; a changed
table cell text redraws the table. The FIELDDISPLAY box is placed from
the text layout (MTEXT layout cells, TEXT / attribute pen advances) and
spans 0.345 text heights below the baseline to 1.19 above it.

MTEXT draws its stored text instead of re-evaluating fields on every
redraw. Fields update on their evaluation events as the reference does:
open (1), save (2, not autosave), plot (4) and REGEN/REGENALL (16), each
masked with the drawing's FIELDEVAL (variable dictionary, 0-31, with the
reference's prompt and message), and the new UPDATEFIELD command
(selection, attributes of selected block references, "N field(s)
found." / "N field(s) updated."). A Date field (on demand only) keeps
its value until UPDATEFIELD. The FIELDDISPLAY gray box now covers each
field's own glyphs, one box per line it spans, instead of the whole
text. Codec moved to the update_fields / field_spans revision.

Each band segment was a rectangle ending square at its vertex, so the
outer corner of every joint showed a notch. Every segment end now carries
the tangent of half its turn, and the shader slides that end's corners
onto the joint's bisector so neighbours meet in a miter. Turns sharper
than the limit keep butt ends. Constant-width runs inside a polyline split
around its arcs no longer count as tapered, which had kept them unmitred.

Real BT/Tj text objects ride alongside the vector outlines (Tr 3,
zero visual change): runs preserved at layout time, TTF styles embedded
as allsorts subsets with ToUnicode, width-matched Tm, clip-culled.
WireModel literals moved to ..Default::default() tails.
Point clouds: drawn from their scans, attached, cropped and stylized.
The fork's codec patch is resolved to the upstream pins: the point cloud
records landed in opencadcodec 5ef9376, carried through opencadkernel
68eeda1 and opencadgraph e204966.

Once edited, a dimension is drawn live instead of from its *D block;
on the #898 drawing that differed in three places:
- Oblique / architectural-tick strokes were DIMASZ/2 to each side, the
block's are DIMASZ/sqrt(2) (its unit stroke runs corner to corner).
- Arrowheads and ticks shared the dimension line's wire, so a dashed
dim line broke its ticks into stubs. They get their own solid wire
(and explode as lines as before).
- A diameter's user-positioned text was lifted by the DIMTAD offset even
when the stored point already was the text's middle, as a file saved
elsewhere writes it; it is lifted only when it lies on the leader
(#1323's case).

Two causes behind the load stalling at the scene-cache step:
- Solids were fitted to the ACIS header's first tolerance-line value,
which is the millimetres-per-unit scale (25.4 in this inch drawing,
1 in most), not a tolerance. It is now resabs, the second value.
- The kernel (37b6902) drops pcurves that miss their edge and caps the pcurve
walk, so a solid carrying a bad pcurve no longer refines an edge
hundreds of thousands of times. Graph b741bd6.
The attached drawing now meshes all 76 solids in 3.4 s (release) and
opens in 19 s in a debug build.

The manager's switches write the cloud's hidden scans (by the scan
identifier its project and scan file carry) and hidden regions (the
unassigned points are region 0), as the reference stores them, instead
of extended data. A parent switch shows mixed while some of its rows
are on. A cloud that shows none of its points draws its extents box.
The codec reads and writes both lists.

Scans (.rcs) and projects (.rcp) are read and their points drawn as
screen-sized dots, coloured by the cloud's stylization. The cloud's
placement carries its scale and rotation; its extents and crops stay in
the scan's coordinates. A missing scan shows the extents with the saved
path. -POINTCLOUDATTACH / POINTCLOUDATTACH, POINTCLOUDCROP and the
POINTCLOUD* settings follow the reference's prompts and messages, the
Properties list is the reference's, and a locked cloud is left alone by
edits.

A DWF sheet or DGN model is drawn as world-space wires (one line wire per
colour and width, one fill wire per colour) instead of a raster rescaled
to the view, so it stays sharp while zooming instead of showing pixels
until the raster is made again. Colours go through the colour table
mapping, contrast, fade and monochrome; clip boundaries clip the wires.
The wires are drawn and plotted but neither picked nor snapped; the
underlay's own snap geometry still serves object snaps.

Every near-white colour turned black on a light background (and near-black
white on a dark one), including true colours. A 255,255,255 solid used as a
white mask became a black block. Now only colour 7 swaps: true colours and
ACI 255 resolve a hair off pure white/black and keep their value on screen
and in plots.

The width of a wide polyline lives on the wire as a GPU band, which the
custom-arrow extraction dropped, so the arrow drew as a hairline.

- The Frames list shows the drawing's frame state (hide / display and plot /
display but not plot / frames vary), follows commands, undo and document
switches, and lists the mixed state as a disabled item.
- DWFFRAME and DGNFRAME are frame variables of their own, kept in the header,
and FRAME sets them with the others.
- Out-of-range frame values say "Requires an integer between 0 and 2." and
ask again; a set value reports "Regenerating model.".
- IMAGEFRAME is stored in the image variables as bits (2 is written as 3) and
a drawing without them uses the profile value, which setting IMAGEFRAME
updates and the settings file keeps.
- Raster images, PDF underlays and wipeouts are picked on their frame only;
underlay snap geometry is never picked.

Review of #1484:
- The underlay's snap geometry became one hidden wire per segment, but
every piece took the whole page's bounding box, so each cursor move
visited every piece. Each piece now gets its own box.
- Assigning unlayered images to the last layer compared Debug strings of
every layered path and text per drawn item (quadratic, formatted anew
each time); the owners are keyed once in a map.
- The `snap` automation op used (0, 0, 0) for a missing point; it now
answers invalid_point. It also left the live snapper's base point set
to the query's; the base point is restored.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Unlayered raster images go with the PDF layer drawn last before them.
- Circular Bezier arcs import as arcs: bulged polyline segments with Join,
ARC entities without it; straight chains still join.
- Imported PNGs go to "PDF Images" next to the PDF; import blocks are
numbered imp31, imp32, ...
- Background darkness is its HSL lightness below one half.
- All chosen pages attach at the same insertion point.
- PDF geometry snaps as separate pieces: centre from the rim, intersections
and perpendiculars.
- Automation: snap query with an optional base point.

The codec and kernel repositories and crates are renamed opencadcodec and
opencadkernel. Inside OCS they are depended on under short keys, so code
reads `codec::`, `kernel::` and the new `graph::` (opencadgraph, the node
graph engine). File-format and protocol spellings stay as they were: the
ACIS product id `acadrust`, the ACADRUST_* switches and the plugin
version keys `acadrust_version` / `acadrust_source`.
A button left of MCP on the command line opens a translucent node graph
over the viewport, with a palette of object, input, math, logic, list,
text and geometry nodes added by click or drag. An object node owns
drawing entities and its rows are the Properties panel's own rows for
them: the single-object page is extracted from refresh_properties as
entity_property_sections, values use the control protocol's
property_json, and writes go through set_property_value with a property
target override, so the panel, MCP and the graph share one read/write
path. A list reaching an object row makes one entity per element. Each
graph action is one undo step; the canvas pans and zooms.

Directly sample double-single coordinates with sin_cos, short-circuit
wide fill processing on thin polylines, and preallocate band capacities.
1. Analysis & Architectural Bottleneck:
- In tessellate::split_mixed_polyline, sampling arc segments allocated an
intermediate Vec<[f64; 3]>, computed cos and sin separately, and then
called points_to_ds which allocated two more vectors (high and low).
- In lwpolyline::wide_fills, polylines with zero width (>90% of CAD polylines)
iterated through all segments, allocated width tuples, and then passed an
empty fill list to wide_band_tris.
- In common::tapered_band_points, vector capacities were unreserved.
2. Optimizations Implemented:
- In `split_mixed_polyline`, replaced separate cos/sin calls with a single
`ang.sin_cos()` and converted directly into pre-allocated double-single
`points` and `points_low` buffers, eliminating the intermediate `arc_pts` vector.
- In `points_to_ds`, added early exit if capacity is 0.
- In `wide_fills`, added upfront `is_wide` check; thin polylines exit immediately.
- In `wide_band_tris`, added immediate return for empty fills.
- In `tapered_band_points`, reserved vector capacity `seg_count + 1` upfront.
3. Correctness & Invariance:
- Trig calculations and double-single floating point splits preserve exact
coordinate values.
- Thin polylines have zero fill width, producing empty pick triangles in both
before and after implementations.
- Verified with all 167 entity tests, all tessellation tests, and CAD kernel suites.
