The Change Path Type row shows a right-triangle affordance and reveals the Make Absolute / Make Relative / Remove Path submenu beside it. The flyout opens on hover only and a shared submenu-row style removes dead code from the earlier iterations.
Row right-click menu is exactly Open, Attach..., Unload, Reload, Detach, Change Path Type group with Make Absolute, Make Relative, Remove Path, Select New Path, Find and Replace. Change Path Type renders as indented group. Open uses OCS for DWG and OS default for images and PDFs. Preview decodes on selection change, not only at refresh. Details shows placed display width and height for image instances.
Detach and Bind on nested rows report the CLI-worded per-entry error instead of skipping silently. Adds GUI-path regression tests for every row operation on direct and nested rows, plus Reload All, Overlay, Change Path, and Find and Replace coverage.
Right-click actions bound to the row under the cursor, split-button toolbar groups with shared borders and hover states, and a notice when an operation needs a selection first.
The ribbon kept its own \show_block_palette\ copy that the app had to
manually sync at every mutation point (the BLOCKPALETTE command and the
dock Close handler). Drop the copy and thread the app's authoritative
\show_block_palette\ into \Ribbon::view\ at render time, so the button
highlight can't drift from the panel's true visibility — those two
handlers are now mutate-points only and the ribbon view is the single
place that reads the state back.
The Insert tab's Block Palette button now behaves like the View tab toggles
(UCS Icon, View Cube, Ortho, Properties, File Tabs, Layout Tabs): it stays
highlighted while the block palette panel is open and clears when closed.
The Ribbon gains a show_block_palette flag with a set_block_palette setter,
fed into ToggleState and mapped in is_active_tool for the BLOCKPALETTE tool
id. show_block_palette on the app remains the single source of truth; both
mutation paths now mirror it onto the ribbon:
- BLOCKPALETTE / BLOCKSPALETTE command toggles ribbon state alongside the
panel (src/app/commands/blocks.rs).
- Closing the panel via the dock rail close button clears the ribbon state,
matching how Close(Properties) already syncs (src/app/update/dialog.rs).
The drag preview divided the edge height by the raw panel count on the target
side. Closed panels keep their stack slot, so a hidden panel (e.g. the block
palette tucked away while Properties stays open) split the ghost and the drop
index as if it were rendering — leaving a half-height preview on that edge.
Size slots from the panels actually rendered on the edge instead, via a shared
visibility helper used by both the drop-index math and the ghost/edge-tint
geometry.
The dock drag preview computed slot heights and drop indices from the full
window height, but docked panel columns only span the model viewport, so the
preview overlay and insertion point drifted below the actual dock edge. Use the
current viewport height so the ghost and drop index line up with the panels.
Creating a block from selected entities now bumps the geometry epoch, so the
block palette's per-update stale check notices the new definition and refreshes
its list in place instead of requiring the user to close and reopen the panel.
Removing the binary wireframe event left add-ons with no way to set a
visual style except by spelling out a command string. Give them the
intent back, in the vocabulary everything else now speaks.
The name is carried as text rather than the render-mode type: this crate
is dependency-free by default and only pulls acadrust in behind the host
feature, which is not a weight to add to the manifest contract for one
enum. The host resolves it against the same list its ribbon, its picker
and its commands read, so an add-on can offer exactly the styles the
application does and no others. An unknown name says so and lists the
ones that exist, from that same list.

The ribbon offered four styles and dispatched each one's id as a command.
Two of those ids were not visual-style commands: "Shaded" carried SOLID,
which draws a 2D filled polygon, so choosing it started a draw command;
"Hidden" carried HIDDEN, which matched nothing at all, so it did nothing.
The intent had been for the button to fire its tool's event, but the
dropdown never reads one -- it dispatches the id.
Behind that sat two generations of the same feature. The render-mode
picker offered the seven styles a viewport can actually be drawn in;
everything else -- the ribbon, VSCURRENT, SHADEMODE, VISUALSTYLES and a
handful of bare verbs -- went through a binary wireframe-or-shaded flag
that could only approximate them, reporting "Hidden (shown shaded)" and
"X-Ray (shown as wireframe)" when asked for something it had no way to
draw. Four descriptions of one choice, each drifting on its own.
There is one list now. Each style names itself once -- mode, label, icon,
and the command that applies it -- and the ribbon, the picker, the
VISUALSTYLES verb and the interactive prompt all read from it, down to
the line that lists the choices, so what is offered cannot disagree with
what works. Keywords are the render modes' own names, since there is one
set of styles left to name.
The binary path is gone rather than kept alongside: its message, its
module event, the tool definitions that produced it, the ribbon's
special-cased highlight arms, the bare style verbs and the older keyword
spellings. X-Ray goes with it -- no render mode draws one, and it was
already coming out as a plain wireframe. Three files that had been left
holding a single icon constant each fold into the list.
Note: ModuleEvent::SetWireframe leaves the plugin API with it.

Add a searchable block palette with previews, file import, collision-safe nested definitions, and dependency/table-record import. Keep palette thumbnails current across drawing switches and block-definition edits.
Hold edit leases and compare disk fingerprints before replacement so another editor cannot be silently overwritten.
Offer retry, reload, Save As, or explicit overwrite recovery.
Closes#498
The Save-As dialog hard-coded the format dropdown to the latest
(DWG/DXF 2018) regardless of what was opened, so a round-trip silently
re-targeted the version. Default it to the loaded document's own version
and DWG-vs-DXF kind instead (from `document.version` + the file
extension), which always matches one of the dropdown options. A new,
unsaved drawing keeps its document default. QSAVE on an existing file
already preserved the version; only Save-As was wrong.

Tool highlights used to stick: every click set active_tool, but only
interactive commands and a hand-maintained per-modal list ever cleared
it, so one-shots (Cleanup/AUDIT, view actions) and unlisted dialogs
(Customization/ALIASEDIT, CUI, Plugin Manager…) stayed blue forever.
Now the rule is mechanical: state toggles light from state only (the
click highlight drops immediately), interactive commands stay lit
while running, dialog openers stay lit until the modal closes (generic
clear replaces the per-modal list), and one-shots never keep it — the
dispatch site turns the highlight off when nothing stayed running.
On the Start tab, tools whose command the start gate refuses now render
dimmed (grey icon + label) across all button styles, dropdowns and the
quick-access strip; start_allowed() is the single shared authority.

Every rfd dialog result funnels through sys::handle_path, which now
records the picked file's folder (persisted to the config dir), and all
pickers are built via sys::file_dialog(), seeded with that folder.
Save-As keeps the current tab's own directory as the first choice and
falls back to the remembered one.

Donate, Send Feedback, OCS Web and Manage > About all answered "No
drawing open — use New or Open first." and did nothing.
Two doors guarded the welcome tab and the outer one shadowed the inner.
`dispatch_command` already knew which commands stand alone — About,
Donate, Report and the links were all on its list — but
`on_ribbon_tool_click` refused every ribbon event before dispatch was
ever reached.
The welcome page's own buttons emit RibbonToolClick, so they are only
ever clickable while `is_start` holds: the refusal covered exactly the
case they exist in, and they had never worked. New Drawing / Open File /
Plugins send their own messages, which is why the page still looked
alive.
So the ribbon door now defers commands to dispatch and keeps refusing
only what touches the scene. The policy stays in one place instead of
being half-remembered in two. A drawing tool is still turned away on the
welcome tab (#299) — the wording just comes from dispatch now.
The same gap was swallowing tools the issues never mentioned: CUI and
ALIASEDIT configure the application, not a drawing, and were missing
from the list, so fixing only the ribbon door would have moved their
refusal one door down rather than removing it. HELP and CUILOAD /
CUIIMPORT join them.
The new test drives the real message path and fails on the old code with
the reported wording. It reads the allowlist from source rather than
dispatching DONATE / REPORT / WEBVERSION, which shell out to a browser —
that also fails the day someone adds a welcome-page button and forgets
the list.

On the Start page there is no drawing to act on, but ribbon panel
command icons still dispatched into the empty welcome tab. Guard
on_ribbon_tool_click: when the active tab is the Start page, close any
open flyout, show a "use New or Open first" hint, and do nothing. The
quick-access New / Open / Save buttons use a separate path and stay
available, as do the welcome page's own actions.
The icons are not yet visually greyed out (that needs an enabled flag
threaded through the ribbon render) — this stops them from running.

Replace the custom in-app file-browser save dialog with the native OS
save dialog for choosing the destination path — folder browsing and
overwrite confirmation now come from the OS. A compact in-app modal
still selects the DWG/DXF format and version (a native dialog cannot
carry the version year) and appears only for Save As. Plain Save on an
unsaved drawing defaults to DWG 2018 with no picker. The file-name field
is shown only on web, where there is no native dialog.
Remove the hand-rolled directory listing, folder navigation, and
overwrite modal.

Third stage of the adaptive tool area (shrink -> compact -> collapse).
When even the compact panels don't fit, DensitySwap picks a new
CollapsePanels widget that keeps a left prefix of panels inline and
collapses the rest to buttons; clicking a button opens the full panel as
an overlay flyout anchored below it (closes on outside press, mirroring
color_select's Floating).
A collapsed panel's button shows a live representative tool — the panel's
last-used tool (tracked per panel in Ribbon::note_panel_tool on every
tool click), defaulting to its first — rendered as a large icon. To
support this, render_small now also renders Large* items small and
render_large now renders plain Tool/Dropdown items large. Large dropdowns
render as icon + label + a bottom arrow strip via a shared
render_large_dropdown helper, used in both the full ribbon and collapsed
panels.
Ribbon dropdowns (tool dropdowns + undo/redo history) now anchor their
overlay directly below their widget at any size: a transparent PosReport
wrapper records each dropdown button's screen bounds into a thread-local
map on draw, and the overlays read it via Ribbon::dd_anchor instead of the
layout-estimating compute_*_left helpers.

Two gaps in the autosave recovery files:
1. A brand-new, never-saved drawing was never autosaved — on_autosave only
wrote tabs that already had a path. A shared autosave_target() now writes
saved drawings to <file>.sv$ and unsaved ones to the system temp dir
(OpenCADStudio_<name>.sv$).
2. Closing a file (tab) left its .sv$ behind, which also defeated the
program-close cleanup (it only scans still-open tabs). on_tab_close and the
unsaved-discard path now delete the closing tab's .sv$, and Save/Save-As
drop the temp copy a drawing used while it was still unsaved.
Program-close cleanup (exit_app -> cleanup_autosaves) already worked.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The .sv$ recovery copies only need to survive a crash, so they are removed on
a clean save (Save and Save-As both delete the file's .sv$ after writing) and
on a clean exit — a new exit_app() runs cleanup_autosaves over every open tab
before quitting, and all iced::exit() paths now funnel through it. A leftover
.sv$ therefore signals an unclean shutdown, i.e. something to recover.

Two in-canvas confirmations on the Save-As path:
- AEC/Civil drop warning: when the drawing carries unsupported AEC/Civil
(application) objects that survive only as verbatim source-version bytes,
saving to a different version or to DXF would silently drop them. The
dialog reports the count and offers "Save in source version" (keep) vs
"Save anyway" (drop). Same-version DWG saves are lossless and skip it.
- Overwrite confirmation: when the chosen filename already exists in the
target folder, "Replace" / "Cancel" before clobbering it.
The two chain (AEC first, then overwrite) via per-flow acknowledgement flags
reset whenever the Save dialog opens or closes. Detection is a new
io::dropped_on_save_count over the document's Unknown (raw-passthrough)
objects/entities.

- Save As now defaults the version dropdown to DWG/DXF 2018 (latest)
instead of the loaded file's version; the selected version is written
as-is (removed the source-version fallback for version-locked data).
- Pin acadrust 55a2caa: allocate_handle respects header.handle_seed as a
floor, fixing the corruption where opening a file and saving it
silently overwrote existing XRECORD/DICTIONARY objects (handle reuse)
and AutoCAD refused the result.

Civil3D/AEC objects (and raw MLEADER/Surface records, EED) can only be
written losslessly in their source DWG version. On save, fall back to the
source version when the chosen version is an incompatible encoding family
(acadrust CadDocument::has_version_locked_data), with a command-line
notice, across every save path (Save, Save As, save-before-close/quit)
via a shared dwg_save_version helper. Default the Save-As format dropdown
to the loaded file's version so a round-trip preserves it.
Picks up acadrust DWG-writer conformance fixes (3dbae05) so a Civil3D
R2004 drawing round-trips through OCS and opens in AutoCAD with no errors.

Replace the custom model_tiles tiling with iced 0.14 pane_grid as the layout
source of truth, while paper-space floating viewports are left untouched (they
overlap/free-place, which pane_grid cannot model).
Each Model pane is its own shader widget rendering its camera into the pane
bounds; the renderer Primitive carries a base_slot so several shader widgets
share the type-keyed MultiPipeline storage on disjoint slots. A second pane_grid
of transparent mouse_areas (plus on_resize) layers above the crosshair overlay
to receive input — the overlay's Hidden cursor interaction otherwise levitates
the cursor and starves any layer beneath it. The active pane follows the cursor
(hover-activate), and grid / crosshair / UCS icon render per pane while the
ViewCube and render-mode picker stay on the active pane only.
Split / close / VPORTS presets and the VPort table round-trip now drive
pane_grid (guillotine reconstruction on load). Adds drag-to-swap via a controls
bar handle with a ghost-card preview, visible pane dividers from the pane_grid
split regions, a default model background of RGB(33,40,48), and removes all the
superseded custom-tile code.

Break up the four giant files (~29k lines total) into focused submodule
directories, one concern per file. Pure mechanical moves — behavior is
unchanged.
- app/update.rs (9650) -> app/update/{mod,viewport,command,style,file,
dynamic,dialog,util}. The 384-arm update_inner match stays in mod.rs
with thin delegating arms; the 66 fattest arm bodies move to topic
methods. Arm set preserved exactly (384 -> 384).
- scene/mod.rs (9017) -> scene/{mod,entity,tess,hittest,layout,paper,
mspace,project,selection,modify,group_layer,preview}. The impl Scene
body is split across files via inherent-impl-per-file; struct, ctor,
fields and load-time helpers stay in the root. fn count 123 -> 123.
- app/commands.rs (6082) -> app/commands/* grouped by command family.
The 233-arm dispatch match becomes source-ordered per-family
dispatch_* handlers, preserving first-match precedence (233 -> 233).
- app/view.rs (4686) -> app/view/{mod,overlay,modal,viewcube,controls}.
Largest file drops from 9650 to 3343. Builds clean; app launches and
loads plugins with no panic.
