fem: finite-strain material point, total Lagrangian elements and follower pressure
The material point interface returns the Kirchhoff stress and the spatial tangent of its Lie derivative from the deformation gradient, with per-point history committed by the solver: St Venant–Kirchhoff (pushed forward from S = D E) and the decoupled compressible neo-Hookean with its isochoric and volumetric parts. Total Lagrangian solids (tet4, tet10, wedge6, hex8, hex20 full and reduced) and plane strain and axisymmetric elements give internal forces and the consistent tangent with its geometric stiffness; hybrid solids use the Simo–Taylor–Pister three-field formulation on the existing pressure fields. Incompatible modes and plane stress are refused by name. Follower pressure on faces and 2D edges with its load stiffness. Every tangent is checked against central differences of its forces. FEM foundation B: heat transfer and thermal stress (solids, 2D, explicit), coupled temperature–displacement, solve.heat (#45)
* Heat transfer and thermal stress: thermal materials, temperature BCs, heat loads, heat transfer and coupled temperature–displacement steps, solve.heat
Model: Material.thermal (conductivity, specific heat, expansion, isotropic or
per axis; reference temperature), BoundaryCondition::Temperature (dof 11),
loads SurfaceFlux, Convection, HeatSource and Temperature (a field in static
steps), procedures HeatTransfer { transient (θ-method) } and
CoupledTemperatureDisplacement; checks for missing conductivity/specific
heat/expansion. fem: heat conduction kernels (conductivity, capacity,
source, face flux/film, heat flux) on the DofLayout (one T per node), thermal
strain load and stress D(ε − ε_th) for every solid formulation incl.
incompatible modes. Solver: steady and transient heat transfer, thermal loads
in static steps, coupled steps (exact one-way coupling). Engine: solve.heat,
temperature/heat-flux result fields, probes. Decks refuse heat transfer by
name. Analytic verification: slab, source+convection/flux, thick cylinder,
erfc semi-infinite solid, free/constrained expansion, bimetal strip, coupled
step.

* thermal: strains in 2D elements and explicit dynamics
Plane::thermal_load and stresses_with for plane stress (εzz free), plane
strain (σzz = −D₃·ε_th) and axisymmetric elements, incompatible modes
included; the solver's 2D kernels take them. Explicit dynamics turns a
step's temperature loads into a per-element thermal strain rate (reached
linearly over the step) subtracted from each strain increment, so it feeds
J2 and Johnson–Cook updates. Verified: free expansion in every 2D theory
and element, a biaxially held plate, an explicit free bar (ΔL = αΔT L,
stress-free) and a clamped bar at −EαΔT, capped at the yield stress with
perfect plasticity.

* thermal: trusses take the axial thermal strain; keep the roadmap's M7 line
Truss::thermal_load and stresses_with project the thermal strain on the
member's tangent (Σ αₖ tₖ² ΔT); the static solver applies them to rod2/rod3
(#38). Explicit trusses take none yet and a warning says so.

Implicit solver: fem kernels (tet4/10, hex8, hex20), sparse Cholesky, block Lanczos, solve.* commands (M4) (#23)
* Renumber the layer table for solver crates: fem at L1, solver at L2, fsi at L3 L0 model -> L1 geometry, mesh, fem, decks, render -> L2 solver (explicit, lbm later) -> L3 fsi (later) -> L4 doc -> L5 io -> L6 engine -> L7 ui-egui, mcp -> apps. UI_MIN_LAYER moves to 7, the testkit sits above it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01NmAttHhUZTokgPeEJia8sm * modelcraft-fem: element kernels for tet4, tet10, hex8 (full, incompatible modes), hex20 (full, reduced) Shape functions, Gauss and conical-product quadrature, stiffness, consistent and HRZ-lumped mass, body forces, consistent pressure loads on faces, integration-point stresses and their least-squares extrapolation to nodes, isotropic and orthotropic elasticity. The element table is one row per kind, so wedges, shells and beams are added locally. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01NmAttHhUZTokgPeEJia8sm * modelcraft-solver: linear static and frequency analysis with an analytic verification suite Assembly from the resolved model on the node graph, boundary conditions by elimination, consistent pressure, gravity and body-force loads, nested-dissection ordering, sparse up-looking Cholesky with a factor-size cap, reactions, integration-point and nodal-averaged stresses, von Mises; shift-invert block Lanczos with full reorthogonalization for natural modes, participation and effective mass. ADR 0001 records the own-linear-algebra decision (determinism, wasm). Verified against closed forms: displacement and traction patch tests for every element, cantilever tip deflection (Timoshenko) with convergence rates, Lamé cylinder, Kirsch hole (Kt -> 3), cantilever and free-free beam frequencies with six rigid-body modes. Model definition: sets by geometry name, materials, sections, couplings, BCs, loads, steps, check (#16)
* model: split nodes and elements into a mesh module (no behaviour change) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01NmAttHhUZTokgPeEJia8sm * model: sets by geometry name, materials and units, sections, couplings, BCs, loads, steps and the check Sets bind to persistent geometry names through the mesh's geometry tags (element, element face/edge and node classification) and resolve against the current mesh, so they survive a remesh. Steps list their active loads and boundary conditions explicitly. Model::check names every missing or bad item; Model::resolve gives the writers' view. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01NmAttHhUZTokgPeEJia8sm * engine: model definition commands (sets, materials, sections, RPs, couplings, BCs, loads, steps, tags, check) Each definition has create/edit/delete with its model JSON form as parameters; model.step.activate and model.activity drive the explicit step table; mesh.tag records where the mesh lies on the geometry; model.check and model.set.resolve report against the current mesh. Hostile params run against an empty and a fully defined session. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01NmAttHhUZTokgPeEJia8sm * docs: model definition in architecture and roadmap Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01NmAttHhUZTokgPeEJia8sm * model, engine: review cleanups Validated deserialization (a file replays through the checked methods), interned geometry tags by index, set resolution with tag bitsets and sorted vectors, one delete policy (a load or BC listed by a step is in use), shared helpers (context, remove_existing, step_mut, opt/req/name/listed), dead code removed, Resolved without a per-element section map. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01NmAttHhUZTokgPeEJia8sm * model: mesh-independent force distribution, tractions, stable reference point labels Force and moment on a set default to a total, split by consistent nodal weights over the set's faces (or equally over a node set); per_node is an explicit opt-in. Traction is force per area. resolve() expands them to nodal values for every writer and the solver. Reference points keep a stored node label taken from the top of the label range.
