CypherNaugh_0xandClaude Opus 5.5 1227fab860 Extrude's start_offset says which way it goes: along the sketch normal, also with direction: negative (where a positive offset starts on the far side of the sketch from the extrusion)
The params doc listed start_offset? with no description, and an extrude in direction negative with a positive start offset surprised a user. The behaviour is unchanged (an offset start plane, as in Fusion); the params doc of solid.extrude and the Extent field doc say so.

bherbruck 6f16b31771 Fix viewport input leaking through dialogs
Use egui pointer ownership for viewport navigation and picking, view-cube
interaction, and sketch-dimension hover. Cover scrolling, model selection,
and cube interaction under floating dialogs, including after they close.
Shield constraint glyph and move-gizmo highlights from overlapping UI too.

Clear strict Clippy warnings and use the same saved path in the recent-file
scenario on Windows and Unix.

CypherNaugh_0x 54a86dc6f5 Deleting a sketch deletes every feature built from it: a pipe whose path sketch was deleted stayed in the timeline as a broken feature ("unknown sketch"), and so did holes drilled at sketch points and patches filling sketch regions. Which sketches a feature uses now comes from one place, FeatureKind::input_sketches, a match over every kind with no wildcard arm, so a new feature kind does not compile until it says which sketches it uses; a test reads the FeatureKind definition and fails when a kind with a sketch field is listed as using none (it catches a sketch field added to an existing kind). timeline.dependents reports the same features 2026-10-10 17:21:25 -04:00

CypherNaugh_0x 49bd89de13 Parameter and feature edits report the features they restored from the evaluation cache: setting a parameter back (or a timeline.edit back) reused the earlier results for the same inputs, so the geometry changed back but recomputed said 0, which read as "nothing rebuilt". The evaluator now counts cache hits as last_restored, and parameters.change, timeline.edit, timeline.redefine and solid.press_pull on a fillet or chamfer face report it as restored next to recomputed (params docs, the MCP set_parameter description and docs/mcp.md say what each counts). Tests: setting a parameter back and a feature edit back report restored, in the evaluator and through the commands 2026-10-10 15:36:42 -04:00
bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 be18bd6573 Variable-radius fillets through middle points: radii at positions along the edge, straight or smooth between
kernel::fillet_variable_points(body, edge, start, [(position, radius)...], smooth): the radius law is a B-spline of the edge parameter (straight pieces, or C1 cubic pieces with Catmull-Rom slopes), and since every section's arc is affine in its radius the blend is exactly a rational B-spline (degree 2 across, the law's degree along) with B-spline contact curves on the faces. The largest radius along the edge decides whether the blend fits. Fillet type variable takes mid: [[position, radius expr], ...] and smooth; middle radii are parameters of the feature (Mid radius) and follow user parameters. Tests: straight pieces against (1 - pi/4) L (a^2 + ab + b^2) / 3 per piece, smooth against the integrated law, either end as start, refusals; engine test with a parameter-driven middle radius.

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 4c8f080691 Faces split on purpose stay split: the body remembers its Split Face lines, export and healing keep the pieces apart
Split Face records the new edges as polylines on the body (Body::split_lines); the document carries them through later features. STEP export no longer joins pieces of one surface across such a line, and healing (fillets, chamfers, booleans, shell, draft) no longer merges coplanar pieces there, while incidental pieces (boolean leftovers, seam halves) still merge as before. Tests: plane and cylinder splits keep their face count through a STEP round trip (and join without the record), a second split keeps both lines, and an engine test exports a split box after a fillet with 8 faces.

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 c0e3e3d216 Variable-radius and chord-length fillets
New kernel file blend_variable.rs. The hooks into blend.rs are visibility
only: plane_normal, vtx, rebuild_face and unsupported are now pub(crate).
- fillet_variable(body, edge, start, r0, r1) works on the same edge
configuration as the constant fillet (straight edge, planar faces, end
faces square to it). The radius runs linearly from the end nearest
`start`, and every section square to the edge is a circular arc. The
blend is an exact degree (2, 1) rational B-spline: arc control points
  move linearly.
- fillet_chord(body, edges, chord): the radius per edge comes from its
  face angle (chord = 2 r cos(phi/2)).

Fillet feature: style constant | chord | variable {radius2, start};
FusionFilletEdgesCommand takes type, radius2 and start.

Tests:
- Variable 2 -> 5 on a box edge removes (1 - pi/4) L (r0^2 + r0 r1 + r1^2)/3.
Starting from the other end gives the same solid; equal radii give the
constant fillet; too large is refused.
- Chord 4 on a right angle equals radius 4/sqrt(2).
- Engine: both types by command.

feature SurfaceExtend, engine FusionExtendCommand. Tests: 10x10 extended

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 dd6c8e1a6b Surface bodies: Patch, Stitch, Trim and Thicken
Kernel (surfaces):
- Bodies with an open shell are surface bodies (Body::is_surface).
- patch_region: a planar patch of a sketch region. patch_edges: a planar
patch filling a closed loop of a body's edges.
- copy_faces: faces copied out as a surface.
- stitch: sew surfaces along coinciding edges, turning faces to agree; the
result is a solid when it closes.
- trim: cut a surface by a plane or face and keep one side.
- thicken: offset planar and circular-cylindrical faces along their
  normals (one side or symmetric) into a solid. Plane copies slide;
cylinder copies scale about the axis, exact for NURBS circles. Free
edges get ruled walls. Faces meeting at a sharp edge are refused.

Doc features Patch, Stitch, Thicken (with operations) and SurfaceTrim;
engine commands FusionSurfacePatchCommand, FusionSurfaceStitchCommand,
FusionSurfaceThickenCommand and FusionSurfaceTrimCommand.

Tests (volumes):
- A 10x10 patch thickened by 2 gives 200, also symmetric.
- Half a cylinder side thickened outward gives half a ring; both halves
  inward give the full ring.
- Six faces of a box stitched back give 6000; an open box with its top
patched from the edges, stitched, gives 6000.
- Trim keeps 30 or 70 of 100.
- Engine: patch, trim, thicken gives 140.

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 7a2eb059c4 Components are frames (user bug #4)
What a component holds moves with its occurrence, and picks in the world land in the
component's frame:
- Sketches and construction planes show where their component is placed (free move, joint
drive, Capture Position); sketch.inspect reports sketch points in the world.
- frames.rs maps a command's world picks into the frame of the body they lie on (through the
inverse of its placement: a moved component or a pasted instance), points that make new
geometry into the active component's frame, and directions with them; instance body names
  ("Body1 (Pin:2)") become the component's body. Fillet/chamfer edges, shell/offset/draft
faces, face extrude/revolve, sketch on face, holes, sheet metal and plastic picks, primitives,
appearance faces, analyses. Once per command (not again for commands run by commands); the
active-frame fallback stays for commands without a table. Nothing changes while every
  placement is the identity.
- component.move_bodies keeps a body where it is in the world (Document.body_offsets: from the
new component's frame to the one it was made in; renames and deleted components follow).
- The UI reads the placed model (Session::world_state) for display, picking, sketch editing and
dialogs; live previews use it once anything is placed.
Tests (engine): sketches and construction planes move (and turn) with the component; world
picks fillet, sketch, hole and make boxes in a moved component; a pick on a pasted instance;
move_bodies keeps the world place there and back; a sketch on a face follows a Move feature.
QA's s34 now runs.

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 294597cc96 Face colours and opacity in STEP and 3MF export (and STEP import)
- Bodies carry a Paint for export (opacity, per-face colours), set by
Document::painted from the appearance model. The paint comes from a
  face appearance, a body/component appearance's opacity or a material
look (Glass), and falls back to the paint the body was imported with.
- STEP: faces with colours of their own get a STYLED_ITEM on their
  ADVANCED_FACE. See-through looks add SURFACE_STYLE_TRANSPARENT.
Differently coloured pieces are not merged into one face.
- STEP import reads face styles and transparency. The reader tracks the
file face of each kernel face (bands split in two keep it), so imported
face colours land on the right faces; the design shows them through
  face_colors.
- 3MF: per-triangle colours (pid/p1 into the base materials, carried
through welding) and the object's alpha (#RRGGBBAA).
- Tests: a blue half-transparent cube with a red top exports, re-imports
with its opacity and the red top face, and keeps it when opened and
exported again. 3MF writes the alpha and the face entry.

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 2c383460e9 Joints mate by default (Fusion's convention): origin B's z is turned against origin A's, so two picked faces meet face to face and B sits on A instead of inside it; Flip now means don't mate. File format 4 inverts older joints' flip so they keep their placement; as-built joints and rigid groups stay where they are

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 e7aff4fef0 Persistent naming: shell, draft, offset-face and replace-face faces and hole placements store their faces' names (Feature.face_names) and are moved onto the named face before evaluating (a split face: the nearest piece, with a warning; a vanished face: the picked point, with a warning)

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 72297047d5 Persistent naming, step 1 (plan/adr/0002): faces are named from their history (a face lying on an input face keeps its name; new faces by role: F<feature>:side:<sketch curve>, :start/:top/:bottom caps, :blend:<edge>, …; split pieces #k along their spread), edges by the faces they separate (pieces ~k); names worked out lazily per body and shared by its clones; fillets and chamfers store edge names and resolve by name first (a split edge takes the piece nearest the picked point with a warning, a vanished one falls back to the point with a warning); model.faces and model.edges report names; tests for resize, suppress, reorder, an upstream split and a removed sketch segment

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 99385b1e31 Fillets and chamfers keep their edges through upstream edits: each picked edge remembers its direction and its body's bounding box when picked (Feature.edge_refs, set by the commands and by timeline.edit); a reference point that is off every edge after an edit is carried to the same place in the body as it is now and kept when an edge running the same way is there (QA s06: a fillet on the right top edge follows the edge when the sketch widens); otherwise the nearest edge with a warning as before

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 a01f191d25 Evaluation cache: every feature evaluation is kept by a key of its own inputs, the document context it reads and a digest of the model it starts from (bodies identified by the evaluation that made them, kept while passed through), shared with previews and scratch copies; setting a value back, undo, redo and repeated evaluations reuse results (a 20 × 20 patterned plate builds in 1.7 s instead of 7.5 s; undo/redo of a parameter edit 0 ms); cached and from-scratch evaluation compared in a test; numbers in docs/perf.md (solvecraft-cli bench-edit). Designs read now always get feature input names and occurrences filled in
