The empty design shown at launch, New on a design that is still empty, file.new and the blank design left when the last tab closes all take the Units of new designs preference. Opened files and the sample part keep their own units. Fixes#1205.

* Title bar: inactive tabs without outlines, File menu, Help on the right
Inactive tabs go back to the plain bar colour (the Home tab's readable
hover stays). The separate Home button and theme toggle are gone: Home is
a tab and the theme is in Preferences. The folder icon becomes a File text
menu, Save moves into it (Ctrl+S unchanged), and Help sits on the right
next to Report a bug. Tabs start right after File, Undo and Redo.

Lands the Render workspace (R3), bounded preview-image jobs with cancellation and atomic PNG export (R4a), and opaque PBR looks as one change.
- Render workspace: an overlay-free product preview on the installed GPU device. Returning to Design restores its camera. render.scene and render.settings.apply are added.
- Image jobs: render.preflight/start/status/cancel/export run bounded CPU preview jobs. Export captures the job, overwrite choice and document, and checks the caller's file scope before writing.
- Opaque PBR: looks can carry metal fraction, roughness and dielectric IOR. The product viewport and preview PNG use them; geometry and mass are unchanged. The v1 catalog export refuses PBR rather than dropping it.
- Render setups and PBR looks are saved under design format 21. Labels are in en/de/ja/ko/zh/ru.
Supersedes #706 and #800. Refs #620, #673, #756, #1004.

A design carries metadata (format 21): project, part number, revision, author, organization, description and license, plus other tools' data under reverse-DNS keys, kept as written. Edited in the Design Properties window (Document Settings), set by document.metadata.set, reported by inspect_design, and written into STEP, IGES and 3MF where the format has a place for them. Translated, with tests.
Open and Save use parented AsyncFileDialog sheets; their answers run on the UI thread in a later frame, so resizing the window while a picker is open no longer re-enters winit and aborts. Editors, tab changes, Close/Quit and model-changing control requests wait for the answer; the local library Open and Export in the Appearance dialog use the same flow. Fixes#1088.
Inactive document tabs get a faint outline so neighbouring tabs stay apart, and the Home tab uses the same hover tint as the design tabs so its label stays readable in the light theme. Fixes#1115.
Session::replace_design keeps auto_project when file.new, doc.open and doc.recover swap in another design, and the UI keeps it across tabs, adopt and the last-tab close. Regression tests in engine (sketch_project) and ui-egui (documents).
Completes the Japanese catalog (all commands, panels, dialogs and preferences) and routes the remaining hard-coded UI labels through the translation lookup. English stays the default.
Dragging a text outline now moves the whole editable text, and Move/Copy shifts or rotates it as one piece (a copy stays independently editable). Content, font, height and outline identities are kept; a drag is one undo step and Esc restores the start.
The loading box was a full-window modal whose backdrop covered the custom title bar. It is now a light overlay under the title bar, so dragging, snapping, resizing and the window buttons keep working during open, import and recovery. The timeline rebuild shows feature N of M, and Cancel or Esc stops it at the next feature (solidcraft_doc::progress). Recovery restore now runs off the window thread too. A control or MCP doc.open or import is answered once the file is in and doesn't block frames; edits sent meanwhile wait their turn. The web build still opens in place.

Sketch Create groups its drawing tools under Line, Rectangle, Circle, Arc, Slot, Polygon and Spline. Each family's main button starts the part's last-used variant and its caret lists the others; choices are per open part, kept across sketch sessions and tab switches, and never touch the design or undo history.

Persist typed sketch dimensions and bounded ordered configuration rules in format 8. Use exact occurrence paths and source identity for editing, movement, appearance, and mass. Preserve sheet material regions through cutting, folding, and exact DXF export; retain nested cavities and material islands.
Validation: cargo xtask ci passed, including 368 engine tests, 178 UI tests, 68 UI scenarios, 136 kernel tests, and the 10-crate wasm check. Actual preview workflows and legacy format-7 origin-corner reopening were inspected.
The title bar's ×, File ▸ Quit, the OS closing the window (Alt+F4, Cmd+Q, the window manager:
close_requested is cancelled until the designs are answered) and app.quit / ui.window close all
go through documents::request_quit, which asks Save / Don't Save / Cancel once per design with
unsaved changes. Save saves (Save As for a never-saved design) and quits only if it saved; Don't
Save discards (no recovery copy is kept); Cancel or Esc stays open. Closing a tab asks the same
question (now titled "Save changes to <name>?"); New and Open never replace an unsaved design
(they open a tab). The web app asks through beforeunload while a design is unsaved. Control:
ui.documents {action: quit, answer: save|dont_save|cancel}, app.quit {force}. Tests: quit with
Save then Don't Save across two tabs, Cancel, a Save that saves nothing, Save As; scenario
s43_quit_asks_to_save.

The old ids live only in crates/engine/src/legacy_ids.rs (the legacy migration table): find_command maps them, so old scripts, recipes and control calls keep working, and saved shortcuts, recent and pinned commands are migrated on load (designs store no command ids). Parity maps the observed catalog ids to ours through xtask/data/fusion-ids.tsv. The agent rule now reads: our own dotted id, never another product's. Cargo.toml's repository points at github.com/bherbruck/solvecraft.

Start page (shown on launch without a file, and from the house button in the application bar):
New Design, Open, recent designs (kept in the preferences, newest first) and built-in samples,
each card with a picture rendered from the design in the background. Samples are scripts of
engine commands: the sample plate plus a sheet metal bracket, a hinge assembly with a revolute
joint, a plastic enclosure (lip, bosses, rest, snap fit), a bolted flange with a parametric
circular pattern and a vent plate with a parametric rectangular pattern (test: all build
without a failing feature).
Several open designs as tabs in the application bar: each keeps its own session (undo,
selection), camera and hidden/shown items; + and Ctrl+N open a new design, opening a file or a
sample uses a new tab unless the current design is blank, closing a tab with unsaved changes
asks Save / Don't Save / Cancel. Control channel: ui.documents and ui.home (docs/control-protocol.md).
