Switching to a Layout stops the main thread long enough that the
compositor decides the application has stopped responding and offers to
kill it. The switch itself is not the problem — `layout-switch` reports
about 10 ms — it is the frame after it, which rebuilds the whole wire set.
That frame now has a cheap one in front of it. `layout_settling` is set
when the switch takes, and while it holds, the viewport is replaced by a
centered "Preparing layout…" on the canvas background. No shader widget
means no scene primitive, so `prepare` has nothing to do and the frame
costs nothing. A `window::frames` subscription clears the flag, which is
the guarantee this needs: that callback runs once a frame has actually
been presented, so the notice is on screen and the compositor has been
answered before the expensive frame starts.
The deferral is of the *frame*, not the switch. Two callers depend on the
switch having completed when it returns — one calls `fit_all` immediately
after, another compares `current_layout` — so deferring the switch itself
would have broken both.
This restarts the compositor's timer immediately before the slow frame and
replaces a stale window with something that says what is happening. It
does not make the slow frame fast: if the rebuild still exceeds the
compositor's timeout the dialog can return, and the durable fix is the
2 s `memo_miss` behind it, which is a separate change.
Only `en-US` is validated against at build time; Greek is filled in too
since it is in use here, and the rest fall back until translated.

Reuse the application library from the binary entry point instead of compiling the module tree twice. Keep desktop-only transports and caches out of web builds, remove unused test code, and check executable targets in CI.
Model space appearance now follows the active UI theme instead of a
hardcoded dark background. Canvas mode is user-selectable (Match Theme /
Classic CAD Dark / Custom RGB), with matching controls for the paper
sheet and desk surround backgrounds and grid opacity.
Implements industry-standard CAD system variables, all settable via
command name, SETVAR, and the Options dialog:
- COLORTHEME (0/1 dark/light UI scheme, preserves custom palettes)
- COLORSCHEME (interactive named-theme selection)
- BACKGROUND (THEME/CLASSIC/DEFAULT/DESK presets, RGB triplets)
- SELECTIONAREA, SELECTIONAREAOPACITY (translucent marquee fill)
- WINDOWSAREACOLOR/WINDOWAREACOLOR, CROSSINGAREACOLOR (ACI or theme)
- SELECTIONEFFECT, SELECTIONEFFECTCOLOR (GPU highlight pass, driven by
selection_generation invalidation — no retessellation)
- SELECTIONPREVIEW (bit 0 = idle rollover, bit 1 = in-command hover)
- GRIPSIZE, GRIPCOLOR, GRIPHOT, GRIPHOVER (grip overlay styling)
- Implement `TABLEDIT` command supporting viewport point-picking on cell interiors
- Support overlapping table hit testing with selection cycling and top-table resolution
- Support `/n` and `\n` multiline paragraph breaks (`\P`) in table cell text editing
- Unify text input modes via `InputKind` (`Point`, `SingleToken`, `FreeText`) on `CadCommand`
- Migrate 15+ commands across annotate, draw, insert, layout, and view modules
- Preserve text casing, literal spaces, and bypass arithmetic eval during FreeText input
- Add dedicated `tabledit_tests` and `free_text_entry_tests` test suites
Replace manual key entry with per-row capture cells: clicking + Add
inserts a draft row at the top with its key cell armed, and the next
key combination is recorded and normalized (Ctrl+Shift+S →
CTRL+SHIFT+S). While armed, a dedicated keyboard listener swallows all
input so recorded shortcuts do not execute in the drawing.
Draft rows are transient and confirmed only through an explicit accept
button, so the table never retains empty rows. Duplicate keys and
unrunnable commands are flagged in danger styling with a persistent
warning naming the conflicting command. Added reset-to-defaults with
confirmation, apply-and-exit, a shortcut count, and an unsaved-changes
guard on close.
Keep hidden pre-drag geometry out of snap candidates and avoid empty
scene invalidations. Require stable OTRACK dwell observations and cache
planar-solid visibility during live previews.

Sync current main and companion codec changes before preserving unsupported frame rows, rendering in the entity plane, and sharing final layout metrics with placement preview.
INSERT enumerated all block names in a single prompt string, causing unbounded overlay growth and full-screen occlusion in drawings with many blocks. Replace prompt enumeration with a ranked, incrementally filtered suggestion model: BlockPicker maintains precomputed lower/upper caches and usage ranks (MRU/frequency), filters via O(n) substring scan and partial sorting (select_nth_unstable) to O(k), bounded to CLIPROMPTLINES.
Introduce CLIPROMPTLINES (Integer 0-50, Registry, default 3) for the number of temporary prompt lines above the command window; persist in UserSettings, expose via SETVAR and direct entry, enforce in CommandLine::view. Suggestion count is in direct relation to CLIPROMPTLINES (limit = clip, capped to 50).
Make search live without requiring Enter: add CadCommand::on_live_input, implement for INSERT/MINSERT via picker.set_needle, and wire to command-line input paths (Message::CommandInput, on_command_append_char, on_command_backspace). Updates use upper/lower caches and partial sort for <0.2ms per keystroke on 10k blocks, with debounced block-usage persistence (MRU cap 20, freq cap 200) to avoid I/O thrash. Correct tri_count test helper to use display_from_solid.
Persist camera, render state, and solid fallback geometry across saves. Generate previews from a clean live viewport and refresh recent-file thumbnails immediately.
Affected Chromium adapters fail after selecting WebGPU even when packed renderer paths are forced. Use WebGL2 for the web app and let device limits select renderer tiers.\n\nRefs #788
The MText editor paints its own caret and is not a focusable widget, so
the command input keeps widget focus behind the dialog. It captures the
arrow itself, which routes the key through CommandLineArrowProbe instead
of ArrowKeyPressed — and that path only asked whether the command input
was focused, never whether an editor was open. Up and Down therefore
walked command history while the user was typing in MText.
Give the probe the same rule ArrowKeyPressed already applies: while the
editor is open the arrow moves its caret. The probe now carries the shift
state so a held Shift still extends the selection on this path.

Clicking an editable property value field now selects its entire value instead
of only placing the caret, so typing immediately replaces it. The click is
observed through a global left-press subscription (PropPointerPressed); a focus
sweep reports which widget took focus and PropSyncActive maps it back to the
active property row, then issues a select-all operation only when focus landed
on a different field.
The active row stays highlighted while its text input holds keyboard focus and
clears when focus moves elsewhere.
