Every rfd dialog result funnels through sys::handle_path, which now
records the picked file's folder (persisted to the config dir), and all
pickers are built via sys::file_dialog(), seeded with that folder.
Save-As keeps the current tab's own directory as the first choice and
falls back to the remembered one.

Section marks and drawing-view borders are now real acadrust entity
types instead of Unknown-with-extras, so the renderer dispatches on the
variant directly, the arrow-direction resolver reads the active viewport
off the ViewBorder entity, and selection / properties show "Section
Symbol" and "View Border" instead of "Unknown". View borders are
non-plotting and tessellate to nothing; both count toward the lossy
Save-As warning since they round-trip via their raw records.
Bumps acadrust for the entity promotion.

The shader-band change stopped emitting a hatch fill for wide polylines, so
PDF export — which drew the band from that HatchModel — lost it and plotted
only the thin centre-line.
Stroke the centre-line wire at the band width instead. In `build_pdf`, a wire
carrying `world_width` sets the pen to `world_width * MM_TO_PT` with no
`/ scale`: a lineweight is absolute on paper (hence the divide), but a band is
drawing-unit geometry and must scale with the plot. The CTM's scale then
renders the band at `world_width * scale` on the sheet, matching the geometry,
and the linetype dash pattern strokes it dashed. Overrides any CTB pen weight
(the width is geometry, not a lineweight).

A linetype element can carry a `complex` record with no renderable content
(shape #0, null style handle, zero scale) — some DWGs store plain dash
elements that way (e.g. ISO03W100 "ISO dash space"). document_complex_lt
treated any `complex.is_some()` as complex and sent the entity down the CPU
apply_along path, which skips the GPU dash shader and its A-type endpoint
alignment. Gate on *renderable* content (non-empty text, or a shape with a
real shape-file handle) so these fall through to resolve_pattern and dash on
the GPU with proper A-type alignment.

Multilines were drawn with a fixed ±scale/2 two-line guess in the entity
colour, ignoring the MLINESTYLE entirely, so a drawing's custom style (per-
element offsets, colours and linetypes) was lost — a red/yellow multiline
rendered as a white box.
- mline.rs: resolve the MLINESTYLE (by style_handle, then name) and build one
parallel line per element from its offset x scale + justification shift.
- tessellate.rs: special-case MLINE (like Leader) to emit one WireModel per
element in the element's own colour, CPU-dashing every element through
apply_along so the parallel lines stay in phase.
- linetypes.rs: render a drawing's OWN complex linetypes (embedded text/shape),
document definition first and the bundled .lin catalog only as a fallback, so
a file-defined text linetype like PLYN shows its text.
- Run the dash/glyph layout in a local frame (f64 origin subtracted, re-split to
double-single after) so spacing stays precise at UTM coordinates, and pass
tracking = 1.0 so embedded text keeps its letter spacing.
Cargo.lock pins acadrust to the MLINE->MLINESTYLE handle-link reader fix.

sdf_text_emits_vector_ops_at_the_run_position laid glyphs into the process-
global text atlas, released the lock, then re-read the atlas in emit_text.
Another test growing or resetting the atlas in between shifted the uv keys,
so the lookup missed and the assert saw zero polylines — ~1 in 5 parallel
runs. Its own comment already noted it couldn't catch the one thing worth
catching (a mirrored corner mapping); the size-based tests and text_gpu's
vertex-order tests cover what remains. Not worth a global test mutex.
The AppImage ships both the .desktop file and the hicolor icon, yet the dock
button came up blank on Wayland. A Wayland compositor has no StartupWMClass to
key on — it matches a window's app_id against the basename of an installed
.desktop file to find its icon — and iced defaults window app_id to an empty
string, which OCS never overrode, so nothing matched.
Set application_id to the reverse-DNS id the .desktop is installed under,
reusing the existing file_association::APP_ID const rather than a second copy.
iced enables both the x11 and wayland winit backends by default and feeds the
same application_id to each: on Wayland it is the app_id, on X11 it becomes
WM_CLASS. So this also changes the X11 WM_CLASS, and the old
StartupWMClass=OpenCADStudio would no longer match — realign it to the same id
so X11 keeps working too.
Confirmed on COSMIC/Wayland: the dock icon now appears. This is the Linux half
of the same class of bug as the Windows taskbar report (#392, still open): the
window not carrying the identity the OS needs to find its packaged icon.

A UTM drawing plotted deformed — both geometry and text — while the same
drawing near the origin came out clean. Every pass of the exporter narrowed
an absolute world coordinate to f32 before the offset had a chance to cancel
it, and f32 resolution at UTM is ~0.03 m on easting and ~0.5 m on northing,
so the whole plot snapped onto that grid.
Four places did it, all now folding in f64 and narrowing only once the
result is a single-digit sheet-mm value:
- The wire pass never read `points_low` at all — the word did not appear in
the file — so it plotted the double-single "high" half alone and dropped
every residual.
- emit_hatch cast the f64 `world_origin` to f32, re-introducing at the last
step exactly the quantisation the boundary-relative encoding exists to
avoid.
- pattern_segments rasterised entirely in absolute f32. The pattern is
anchored at world (0,0), so a hatch at UTM runs a line index k of ~1e7:
`origin + k · step` and the `edge − line` intersections both fall apart
there. k also becomes i64 — `as i32` saturates silently, which would
collapse the range to a bogus run from i32::MIN rather than drop the fill.
- emit_text folded `pos + pos_low` in f32, which rounds straight back to
`pos`: the residual the pair exists to carry was discarded at precisely
the coordinates it was carried for.
The offsets themselves were also narrowed by the callers, so the value meant
to cancel a UTM coordinate was quantised before it could. Widen ox/oy to f64
through export_pdf, build_pdf, print_wires and the two plot-param builders;
printing shared the same path and the same bug.
Pre-existing, not from #390 — that change only routed text through the same
faulty pipe the wires were already in.

Review follow-ups to #390, which fixed PDF/print text for model space but
left the layout-plot path — the one issue #385 was filed from — broken.
viewport_content_wires rewrote points/snap_pts/key_vertices/aabb and then
cloned text_verts through untouched, so paper-space viewport text stayed at
model (UTM) coordinates: a dimension at model (25000, 12000) plotted its
lines onto the sheet and its glyphs kilometres off the page. A text-only
wire fared worse — TEXT/MTEXT carry no stroke points since text went
SDF-only, so it was dropped outright by the empty-clip and AABB rejections.
Project the glyphs through the same proj_abs the snap points use (via the
existing map_text_verts helper), cull per glyph on the quad centroid, count
them towards the paper AABB, and dim them like the wire colour.
Also in emit_text, which diverged from the wire pass it mirrors:
- divide the pen by `scale`, or a Fit/windowed plot prints text as
near-invisible hairlines while its own lines stay correct;
- apply the CTB plot style, or a monochrome.ctb plot renders the lines
black and leaves the text on its screen colour;
- reset the dash pattern, which is persistent PDF state the wire pass
leaves set — a HIDDEN-linetype last wire printed glyph outlines dashed.
export_table's doc claimed it honoured TEXTFILL and widened the bold pen
itself; it did neither. Gate fill_tris on textfill() so hollow-on-screen
text exports hollow, carry the bold flag and widen the pen by the 1.7x the
bake uses, and resolve Face once per family instead of once per glyph (the
atlas mutex is held for that whole walk).
uv_key identifies a glyph by its tile's uv_min, but grow_height rescales
every entry's V and reset rewinds the packer, leaving already-built quads
addressing the wrong tile — garbage on screen and a silent miss in the
export table, i.e. #385 again under #347's grow-the-atlas conditions. Bump
an atlas generation on both and fold it into the tessellation memo guard so
the text re-lays-out instead. Quads built earlier in the same pass that
grows are still stale for that pass; the guard heals them on the next one.
Tests: the integration test's "some wire has text_verts" assert passed on
pre-fix code too (the exporter ignored them; the scene always carried
them), and its dimension half was satisfied by the TEXT alone — assert per
entity handle instead, and stop colliding on fixed names in the shared temp
root. The unit test's bbox came from the same quads the mapping reads, so
it held by construction; pin the run's own world box instead. That still
cannot catch a mirrored corner assignment — verified by mirroring it — so
say so rather than claim coverage the assert doesn't have.

Since text became SDF-only (the legacy stroke-text path was removed), all
text — standalone TEXT/MTEXT and dimension text — rendered on-screen only as
GPU glyph quads carried on `WireModel::text_verts`. The CPU PDF/print exporter
draws only wire stroke `points` and hatch fills, so it silently dropped every
glyph: dimensions and text were missing from exported PDFs and prints
(present in v0.7.6).
Reconstruct vector text in the exporter instead of resurrecting the stroke
path, so the SDF render path and its caching are untouched:
- sdf_atlas: `GlyphAtlas::export_table()` snapshots each baked glyph's vector
geometry (outline strokes + fill triangles, glyph space) keyed by its tile
`uv_min`, re-resolved through `Face` so it honours the current TEXTFILL.
- pdf_export: a new `emit_text` pass walks each wire's `text_verts` (one
6-vertex quad per glyph), recovers the glyph geometry by `uv_min`, and
affine-maps it into the quad — `DrawLine` polylines for stroke (LFF/SHX)
fonts, filled triangles for TrueType, plus solid decoration bars. Runs under
the same rotation/scale/clip CTM as the wires, so it covers model space,
paper space and windowed plots, and every SDF-text kind (text, dimension,
multileader, table, tolerance).
Text embedded in complex linetypes is SDF-only with no stroke fallback and
stays out of scope.
Tests: a unit test asserts a stroke glyph emits vector ops within the glyph's
world bbox; an integration test drives a real TEXT + linear DIMENSION through
scene.entity_wires() -> export_pdf and checks text reaches the file. Verified
bug-first: with emit_text disabled the end-to-end test fails with the reported
symptom (text adds no content).

Double-clicking a drawing started a whole second copy of the app. Now it
lands as a tab in the editor already open, and that window comes forward.
The election is the bind itself: every GUI launch tries a deterministic
per-user loopback port, and the OS grants it to exactly one process and
releases it on any death, SIGKILL included. Nothing to reap, no PID to
probe, no stale lock after a crash. The winner serves the port from an
iced subscription; the loser checks it is talking to a matching editor,
hands the paths over and exits. Every surprise — no answer, a stranger on
the port, a timeout — boots a normal window, i.e. the old behaviour: the
feature can degrade, but it cannot lose the file.
The gate in main is positional, after every headless mode has returned.
The plugin runner is this same binary re-spawning itself, so a flag list
would rot the first time a mode is added; a position cannot.
Handing a drawing over that is already open switches to its tab instead
of loading a second copy, comparing resolved paths so a symlink or a
`..` hop is still recognised as the same file.
`opening` is a single slot that a second open would overwrite, and
on_file_opened drops any result arriving once it is clear — so drawings
handed over at once would silently vanish. They queue in pending_opens,
drained from every path that clears the slot, error and cancel included.
Exec becomes %F so one launch takes the whole selection; the CLI takes a
list and boot fans it out through the same door. --new-instance forces a
separate process; --read-only / --script / --new always get their own.
Not reused: the automation server. It dispatches arbitrary commands and
writes arbitrary paths, and its open replaces the active tab's document
in place — publishing that on a port every local process can reach would
be unforced privilege escalation. Only its JSON-lines framing is shared.

WebGL2 has no vertex/fragment storage buffers, so the batched storage-buffer
hatch renderer (hatch_gpu) is disabled on wasm and real hatch fills never
rendered on the web build — the pick highlighted the boundary and the command
then appeared to cancel (issue #204).
Add a wasm-only per-hatch renderer (hatch_web_gpu + hatch_web.wgsl) that packs
the variable-length boundary / family / dash arrays into one RGBA32F data
texture read with textureLoad, instead of the fixed-size uniforms of the
wipeout path. This removes the MAX_FAMILIES (16) / MAX_HATCH_BOUNDARY_VERTS
(1024) / MAX_DASHES (128) caps, so every hatch — solid, gradient, and
arbitrarily complex line patterns — renders on the web. The fill algorithm
(in_polygon, per-family line/dash/dot, gradient, LOD, double-single vertex
transform) is identical to the desktop path; only the array ACCESS changes.
Pattern phase is anchored at world_origin with the boundary stored raw, and
scale / gradient-range clamped, to match the desktop batched renderer exactly.
Native (hatch_gpu + hatch.wgsl) and the wipeout mask renderer are untouched;
the new module and pipeline are gated on target_arch = "wasm32".
Also silence the resulting (and pre-existing) wasm-only dead-code warnings for
native-only paths so both the native and web builds compile clean.
Closes#204.

Some DWGs written by other programs leave the root named-objects
dictionary unrecoverable: the header pointer names a non-dictionary and
the real NOD child dicts are owned by a table-control handle, so nothing
has owner==NULL. Navigating the root then silently no-ops, and
registering a new named-object entry (page setup, annotation scale, CTAB)
against the missing root orphans it — it never round-trips.
Add shared annotative::root_named_dict_handle(): resolve the header
pointer, else adopt the richest owner==NULL dict, else synthesise a fresh
root and write it back. Route ensure_plotsettings_dict, add_scale's
scalelist-create branch, and set_saved_active_layout through it. Resolve
the plot-settings dict via the PlotSettings owner when the header pointer
is stale, mirroring scalelist_dict_handle.
Verified page setups survive a DWG save/reload on the repro file with
layouts intact.

Saving from a non-first paper layout still reopened on the first paper
tab: set_saved_active_layout only updated an existing CTAB entry, but
documents authored here never carried one, so CTAB was never written and
the reader fell back to $TILEMODE (which only records model-vs-paper) →
the first paper layout.
set_saved_active_layout now creates the CTAB DICTIONARYVAR under the root
named-object dictionary when it is absent (updating in place otherwise).
The root dictionary is taken from the header handle, or found by scanning
for the dictionary that holds ACAD_LAYOUT when a from-scratch document
has not populated the header handle yet. The writers persist it (they
serialize the document's objects and root-dictionary entries; the
root-dict rebuild in CadDocument::build() is not run on save).
Adds tests/active_space_roundtrip.rs, including a full DXF save→reload
round-trip asserting both $TILEMODE and CTAB survive.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Files saved while a paper layout was active reopened in Model space
because the loader hardcoded the current layout to "Model" and never
consulted the space recorded in the file.
The active space is a standard part of the format and acadrust already
round-trips it: $TILEMODE (header.show_model_space) for model-vs-paper,
and the CTAB current-tab variable for the exact layout name.
- Read: on open, pick the current layout from CTAB (when it names a
layout that exists), else $TILEMODE (Model, or the first paper layout).
- Write: Scene::sync_active_space_to_document() mirrors the active layout
back into the document (show_model_space + CTAB). It runs from
set_current_layout, so every active-layout change — the status-bar tab,
the Layout Manager's Set Current, create / rename / delete, and
undo/redo — keeps the document in sync for the next save.
$TILEMODE is the guaranteed mechanism (read and written for both DXF and
DWG); CTAB refines the exact tab when the variable is present.

Replace the custom in-app file-browser save dialog with the native OS
save dialog for choosing the destination path — folder browsing and
overwrite confirmation now come from the OS. A compact in-app modal
still selects the DWG/DXF format and version (a native dialog cannot
carry the version year) and appears only for Save As. Plain Save on an
unsaved drawing defaults to DWG 2018 with no picker. The file-name field
is shown only on web, where there is no native dialog.
Remove the hand-rolled directory listing, folder navigation, and
overwrite modal.

Round-trip a raster preview through the DWG's embedded preview slot and
surface it to the OS file managers, so drawings show their contents in
Explorer / Finder / Nautilus instead of a generic document icon.
OCS:
* io::thumbnail — rasterize the scene to a BMP DIB on save (embedded via
acadrust's new Preview type) and read it back on open for the Start
page recent list; `--dwg-thumbnail IN OUT SIZE` CLI extracts a badged
PNG for external thumbnailers.
* io::file_association::install_thumbnailer — self-install the OS
integration on startup: Linux writes a .thumbnailer + hicolor mimetype
icons; Windows registers the IThumbnailProvider DLL under HKCU.
Shared core:
* crates/dwg-thumbnailer — lean (image-only) preview extractor + the
`badge_dwg` full-width "DWG" band, used by every platform so the
ribbon is single-sourced. Ships an rlib+staticlib.
* crates/dwg-thumbnailer-win — IThumbnailProvider COM in-proc server
(cfg(windows), CI-built as a workspace member).
* macos/ — QuickLook thumbnail extension (Swift + C-ABI bridge to the
core staticlib), assembled into a .appex.
Icons & packaging (single SVG source -> per-platform assets in CI):
* assets/mimetypes/image-vnd.{dwg,dxf}.svg — themed file icons.
* packaging: WiX ships dwg/dxf.ico + the thumbnail DLL and points the
ProgIds at them; Info.plist gets CFBundleTypeIconFile + the QuickLook
extension in Contents/PlugIns.
* release.yml — generate .ico (Windows) and .icns (macOS) from the SVGs,
build the QuickLook .appex, and bundle everything.

Generate a small wire-raster thumbnail when saving a DWG and embed it via
acadrust's preview API, so OCS drawings show a thumbnail in file browsers
and other CAD applications. Read the embedded preview back cheaply (file
header + preview bytes only, no full parse) to show a thumbnail per file
in the Start page's Recent Documents panel.
- io/thumbnail.rs: CPU rasterizer (current-layout wires -> BMP DIB) plus
a preview-only reader/decoder (BMP/PNG -> iced handle) for the Start
page.
- Embedded on save via stamp_thumbnail on both save paths.
- recent_thumbs cache filled on config load / recents change (never from
a view); a thumbnail is drawn beside each recent file.
Requires acadrust at 3111694 (preview read/write), already pinned in
Cargo.lock.

Replace the old Page Setup panel with a single OCS-styled plot/print
dialog (dropdowns for printer, paper, orientation, rotation, plot area,
scale, quality, shaded plot; checkboxes for plot options). PLOT / PRINT
/ PAGESETUP all open it.
- Printer output via lp: -d printer, -n copies, -o ColorModel=Gray,
print-quality, Resolution; Windows printto verb; list_printers via
lpstat. Preview opens a temp PDF in the OS viewer (never a save
dialog). PDF export reuses the tested pipeline.
- Window pick returns to the new dialog (was the old Page Setup) and the
clipped window plot drives PDF / printer / preview.
- Remember the user's print preferences across sessions in
config/plot.txt (printer, copies, quality, output options, area,
scale); drawing-specific fields (offset/center/rotation) seed from the
layout. Default plot area Window, scale Fit.
- Delete src/ui/window/page_setup.rs and its ModalKind / Message /
buffer state; fold on_page_setup_commit into apply_plot_page_settings.

Hatched content — especially fills nested inside a block INSERT, such as a
title-block logo — plotted incorrectly: missing, mis-spaced, or with phantom
bars. Five related fixes make the PDF/plot output match AutoCAD.
1. Export block-internal hatch fills.
The export collected only hatches owned directly by the layout block, so a
hatch nested in a block INSERT was dropped and printed as bare monochrome
outlines. The insert-explosion the viewport already does is extracted into a
shared `exploded_insert_hatch_models()` and called from both the viewport
(`synced_hatch_models`) and the export (`paper_canvas_hatches`), so a plot
draws block-internal hatches identically to the screen.
2. Honour the hatch's own stored pattern-line spacing.
`hatch_model_from_dxf` re-derived pattern spacing from the name-matched
catalog entry x pattern_scale, ignoring the resolved line geometry the DWG
stores on the hatch. When a drawing was authored against a different base
spacing (imperial 0.125 vs the catalog's metric 3.175 for ANSI31), lines
came out up to ~25x too coarse and a dense fill collapsed to a few stray
lines. When the hatch carries its own line geometry it is now used directly
(identity scale/angle); the catalog path remains the fallback.
3. Fill far-from-origin pattern hatches.
`pattern_segments` clamped the ABSOLUTE scan-line index to
+/-MAX_LINES_PER_FAMILY. A fine-spaced hatch far from the pattern origin has
large-magnitude indices at both ends but a small span, so the clamp inverted
the range and emitted nothing — silently dropping the fill. Cap the line
count (span) instead of the absolute index.
4. Skip TEXTBOX boundary paths.
TEXTBOX boundary paths (flag bit 3) are text bounding-boxes AutoCAD derives
for island detection; they are never drawn or filled. Treating one as a fill
boundary painted its rectangle solid — a phantom bar. It is now skipped when
building the fill boundary.
5. Print white/ACI-7 hatch fills black on paper.
Hatch fills arrive adapted to the dark screen background, so a white/ACI-7
fill would vanish white-on-white on the sheet. Mirror the wire pass:
near-white/near-yellow -> black, near-cyan -> dark blue, matching AutoCAD's
colour-7-on-white plotting. Wipeouts keep their paper-white mask.
Adds `tests/block_hatch_export.rs` covering: block-internal hatch reaches the
export set, stored-line spacing is honoured, far-from-origin fills are not
dropped, and TEXTBOX paths are not filled.
- Reword the two new explanatory comments to describe the behaviour on its
own instead of citing another product.
- window_to_sheet: drop the unused window_min parameter (the caller already
derives its coordinate offset from the returned min-corner position) and fix
the doc comment to match what the function returns.

Pick a rectangular window in model space with the existing PLOTWINDOW command (now enabled in model space, previously paper-space only) and export it to a PDF at a chosen ISO paper size (A4-A0), orientation and scale (fit or ratio). The window is a hard clip boundary. Adds paper-size presets, a window-to-sheet transform, scale + clip support in the PDF exporter, and Page Setup controls (format/orientation/pick window).
`resolve_xrefs` parsed each xref DWG/DXF one after another, so opening a
drawing that references several large discipline files paid the sum of
their parse times. Split into two phases: parse every file in parallel
(each `load_file` is independent and never touches the host document),
then merge the parsed results serially in the original block order (merge
mutates the host doc, so it stays sequential and deterministic).
Resolving Clinic.dwg's 5 discipline xrefs drops from ~4s to ~2.1s with an
identical result (5 loaded, 0 dropped, same entity count). The speedup is
sub-linear because parsing is memory-bound (each file decompresses ~95 MB
of SAB geometry), not because of the serial merge.

An entity added via a plugin's AddEntity with a common.layer name that no
LAYER command ever created kept its layer in-session, but the DWG writer
resolves an unknown layer name to a NULL handle, so on reopen the entity
collapsed to layer 0.
Add a shared Scene::ensure_layer(name) that registers a missing layer with a
real handle (allocate_handle, per #67) and call it from add_entity and
update_entity. This covers the plugin AddEntity/UpdateEntity IPC and every
internal add path without a new IPC request. Existing/empty/"0" layers are
no-ops, so normal draw commands are unaffected.

The v0.7.0 web (GitHub Pages) release failed to compile under
--no-default-features. Two symbols leaked into the wasm build:
* `solid_section` (SECTION command) used truck-meshalgo directly
(`triangulation`/`extract_interference`), but that crate is gated
behind the `solid3d` feature which is off on wasm. Gate the function
with `#[cfg(feature = "solid3d")]` and add a stub for builds without
it, mirroring `solid_model::boolean`.
* `register_as_handler` was `#[cfg(not(wasm32))]` while its caller
`set_default_app_blocking` was not, so wasm couldn't resolve it. Drop
the wasm gate; the existing non-win/lin/mac arm already returns `Ok`
on wasm, matching `unregister_handler`.

A periodic subscription (every SAVETIME minutes — default 10, 0 disables)
writes a <name>.sv$ recovery copy of each dirty, already-saved drawing at its
own DWG version. Non-destructive: it never touches the original file or the
dirty flag, and skips unsaved (path-less) tabs. The SAVETIME command
sets/queries the interval and persists it. Recovery files (.sv$ and .bak) open
through the normal Open dialog — the loader detects DWG vs DXF from the leading
magic bytes, and a "Backup / Autosave" filter lists them.

Drop the every-launch (re)registration thread. File association is now set up
once via the first-launch prompt (Yes → register + set default; No → decline,
persisted as file_assoc_enabled) and managed afterwards by the FILEASSOC
command. set_default_app now registers the handler entries (.desktop / mime /
ProgIDs) itself before asking the OS to default to us, since boot no longer
does — so the default never points at a missing handler.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
`FILEASSOC 1` (re)registers the app as a .dwg/.dxf/.bak handler; `FILEASSOC 0`
unregisters it (removes the .desktop + CAD mime package on Linux, the per-user
registry keys on Windows); bare `FILEASSOC` reports the current state. The
choice persists (file_assoc_enabled) and gates the every-launch
re-registration, so turning it off stays off across restarts.

- Save: overwriting an existing file first copies it to a sibling <name>.bak
(default on; toggle with the ISAVEBAK command, persisted in settings).
- Open: .bak is a first-class type — the Open dialog lists it and the loader
detects DWG vs DXF from the file's leading magic bytes (the extension hides
the real format).
- File association registers .bak too, every launch (so users who associated
earlier get it automatically): Windows via the registry; Linux via a
high-priority shared-mime-info magic that resolves DWG/DXF content under the
.bak extension, with the generic *.bak glob claimed only once the app is the
default DWG handler — so it never hijacks other apps' backups.

Two in-canvas confirmations on the Save-As path:
- AEC/Civil drop warning: when the drawing carries unsupported AEC/Civil
(application) objects that survive only as verbatim source-version bytes,
saving to a different version or to DXF would silently drop them. The
dialog reports the count and offers "Save in source version" (keep) vs
"Save anyway" (drop). Same-version DWG saves are lossless and skip it.
- Overwrite confirmation: when the chosen filename already exists in the
target folder, "Replace" / "Cancel" before clobbering it.
The two chain (AEC first, then overwrite) via per-flow acknowledgement flags
reset whenever the Save dialog opens or closes. Detection is a new
io::dropped_on_save_count over the document's Unknown (raw-passthrough)
objects/entities.

Civil3D/AEC objects (and raw MLEADER/Surface records, EED) can only be
written losslessly in their source DWG version. On save, fall back to the
source version when the chosen version is an incompatible encoding family
(acadrust CadDocument::has_version_locked_data), with a command-line
notice, across every save path (Save, Save As, save-before-close/quit)
via a shared dwg_save_version helper. Default the Save-As format dropdown
to the loaded file's version so a round-trip preserves it.
Picks up acadrust DWG-writer conformance fixes (3dbae05) so a Civil3D
R2004 drawing round-trips through OCS and opens in AutoCAD with no errors.

Re-pins acadrust to the dimension DXF round-trip fixes (rotation/text/oblique
degree<->radian units, radial/angular/ordinate group codes, ordinate X/Y bit)
and drops the OCS-side fix_dxf_dimension_rotations dimension arm, which now
lives in the acadrust DXF reader (keeping it here would double-convert).
Completes the dimension audit (Batch 5). Refs #181.

Relocate three root-level modules into io/, where they belong by concern:
- update_check.rs -> io/update_check.rs (its own doc-comment notes it
mirrors how crate::io wraps blocking calls in async).
- patterns.rs, linetypes.rs -> io/ (standard resource catalogs parsed
from asset files and populated into the document — IO-shaped work).
Fix the moved files' include_str! paths (one level deeper), add the
mod declarations to io/mod.rs, drop them from lib.rs/main.rs, and
re-point all crate:: references to crate::io::. No behavior change.

A DWG DIMENSION references an anonymous *D<n> block that holds its drawn
geometry; AutoCAD-family readers render that block rather than re-deriving it
from the definition points. OCS re-tessellates dimensions for display and never
materialises the block, so on save a created dimension goes out referencing a
block that doesn't exist and the writer emits a null block handle. Strict
readers (DWG TrueView, QCAD) then drop the dimension or demand a recovery, and
lenient ones (BricsCAD) regenerate it at a different position.
Add bake_dimension_blocks(), called on the cloned document in
io::save_as_version / save_to_bytes, which builds a *D<n> anonymous block from
each block-less dimension's exploded geometry (extension lines + dimension line
+ measurement text) and points its block_name at it. Dimensions that already
own a block (imported, or copied via the *D-cloning copy path) are left
untouched.
Verified end-to-end: before, AutoCAD/Civil 3D 2026 reads 0 dimensions from an
OCS-saved file; after baking it reads all of them.

The internal PDF export set each wire's colour and thickness but never a
dash pattern, so every dashed / centre / dash-dot line printed solid. It
also derived thickness from the on-screen pixel weight, which carries a 2×
screen-legibility boost — so print weights were inconsistent and barely
differentiated.
Emit a PDF dash pattern per wire from its linetype run lengths (mm→pt,
real length = index of the last non-zero element + 1, 1 pt floor so a dot
still marks), resetting to solid where there is no pattern. Convert
lineweight with a factor that undoes both the 96-dpi scaling and the
display boost, so print thickness is the true physical mm.

The web build had bit-rotted: native-only features added since it last
compiled pulled crates that don't build for wasm32-unknown-unknown.
- printpdf (PDF export / printing) → native-only target; the web build gets
stub export_pdf / print_wires. It pulls a wasm-incompatible memchr 1.0.2
via lopdf → nom_locate, and the web has no filesystem.
- getrandom 0.3 (via ahash via acadrust) → enable its wasm_js feature and add
the matching --cfg getrandom_backend rustflag in .cargo/config.toml.
- ocs_plugin_api "host" feature (out-of-process plugin runtime: interprocess,
libloading, memmap2, rkyv) → native-only target; the web gets the
dependency-free manifest/ribbon contract. The host code was already
wasm-gated; only the Cargo wiring pulled it in unconditionally.
`trunk build --release` succeeds again.

Issue #170's fix added a "This PC" volumes root above the drive
letters on Windows. Generalize it so the Save As dialog can switch
volumes on every platform:
- parent_folder() now climbs the filesystem root into the volumes
list on all platforms (`/` -> Computer), not just Windows.
- available_drives() is platform-specific: Windows probes A:-Z:,
macOS lists `/` + /Volumes/*, Linux lists `/` + the removable
mounts under /run/media/$USER, /media/$USER and /mnt. Other Unix
and wasm fall back to `/`.
- drives_root_label() shows "This PC" on Windows, "Computer" elsewhere.
- read_dir_entries() lists the volumes at the drives root on every
platform.
Also gitignore the dist/ web build output so the wasm binary is never
committed by accident.

The custom Save As dialog navigated up the tree solely via
`Path::parent()`, which returns `None` at a drive root (`C:\`).
Navigation therefore dead-ended on the starting volume, so other
drives and USB sticks were unreachable.
Add a synthetic Windows "This PC" drives root above the drive
letters. `parent_folder()` now climbs `…\sub → C:\ → This PC`, and
`read_dir_entries()` lists the available volumes (probed A:–Z: by
stat, no new dependency) when at that root. The dialog's up-button
and path bar route through the same helper and show "This PC".

3D solid / surface meshes were the last single-f32 path. truck's mesh
tessellation now returns a paired verts_low residual (TruckTessResult::Mesh,
polygon_to_result), MeshModel/MeshLodSet carry it, the model-space offset
and block-instance transforms reconstruct the f64 position and re-split it
after subtracting world_offset, MeshVertex gains position_low (location 3),
and mesh.wgsl reconstructs the eye-relative position. Native SAT / ACIS /
OBJ mesh paths default to a zero residual (no regression — they were never
sub-f32 precise).
With this every world-space pipeline (wire, hatch, image, face3d, mesh)
is full double-single relative-to-eye; large-coordinate jitter is gone.

Gate target-specific code so neither build warns about the other's items:
native-only helpers (view, window icon, file dialogs, file association, plugin
host/guard/registry, self-update) are cfg'd to non-wasm; the wasm-only font
fallback (script_of / cjk_lang / request) is cfg'd to wasm. Drop an unused mut,
allow the few genuinely-conditional dead items (mesh_click_hit, GPU layout
helpers, parity stubs), and gate the embedded PlotSettings-unrelated dead
constants. Both targets now build clean (only the unavoidable nom/quick-xml
future-incompat dependency notice remains).

Remove accidental dead code (unused imports, the superseded paste tool()
helper, a never-read TORIENT handles field, a duplicate let binding, an
unneeded mut) and mark intentional-but-unwired scaffolding with
allow(dead_code): the web-only save_to_bytes, the plugin loadable() probe,
the planned PICK_HIGHLIGHT colours, the DynFieldSpec label, and the layout
ribbon helpers. Native build is now warning-clean apart from the upstream
nom/quick-xml future-incompat notices.

The web save path discarded the chosen format version (`let _ = version`)
and `save_to_bytes` never applied it, so every browser download was
written at the document's default version (AC1032 / DWG 2018) regardless
of the format picked in the Save dialog. (#122)
Thread `version` into `save_to_bytes` and set `doc.version` there, the
byte-buffer counterpart to `save_as_version`. Saving as DWG 2013 now
writes an AC1027 file.

On the web, Save and Save As now open the in-app Save dialog (filename +
format) like the desktop, and the unsaved-changes prompt's Save routes
through it too — instead of an immediate rfd download. Confirm serializes
to bytes and downloads directly via a Blob + hidden `<a download>` click
(a user gesture), so there is no intermediate "click to download" link.
Replaces the rfd-based download_web / WebSaveResult round-trip with a
synchronous sys::download_bytes. Native save is unchanged.
Native + web build; 75 tests pass.

Wire up save for the web build:
- `io::save_to_bytes`: serialize a document to a byte buffer (DXF via
write_to_vec, DWG via write_to_writer over a Cursor).
- `io::download_web`: browser save dialog → write bytes (triggers a
download).
- Save and Save As on wasm both go through a new `web_save` helper:
serialize the active tab and offer a download (no persistent path or
in-app save dialog on the web). Format follows the tab name's
extension, defaulting to DWG. Result reported via `WebSaveResult`.
Native build + 75 tests unchanged.

Wire up file open for the web build:
- `io::pick_and_load_web`: browser file picker → read bytes → parse via
`load_bytes` → build caches, returning the same payload as the native
loader so it feeds the shared `Message::FileOpened` handler.
- `Message::OpenFile` cfg-dispatches: native picks a path then loads on a
worker thread; web picks + parses in one async step. The web branch also
sets `opening` (the handler drops results when no open is in progress).
- Disable the cosmic-text shaping / fallback paths on wasm: the web has no
system fonts, so cosmic-text panics with "no default font found". LFF
stroke fonts (embedded) still render; LFF-missing glyphs are skipped.
Native build + 75 tests unchanged. Hatches still don't draw on the web.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
With the wasm bundle building, get it rendering in a browser:
- Enable iced `webgl` so wgpu uses WebGL2 where WebGPU is absent
(e.g. Firefox by default), and `fira-sans` so UI text has an
embedded font (the web has no system fonts) — without it every
label was blank.
- Replace `std::time::Instant` with `iced::time::Instant` (web-safe);
`Instant::now()` panics ("time not implemented") on wasm and crashed
at boot via the command line.
- Skip the batched-hatch pipeline on wasm: its bind group needs
vertex-stage storage buffers, which WebGL2 lacks (validation error
on "New drawing"). Fields become Option; upload/draw guard on them.
Hatches don't draw on the web for now; everything else does.
- Fix the trunk feature flag (`data-cargo-no-default-features`) and
ignore the `dist/` build output.
Native build + 75 tests unchanged.

Add a cross-platform `io::load_bytes(name, bytes)` that parses DWG/DXF
from an in-memory buffer via acadrust's stream readers (Cursor), picking
the format from the name's extension. This is the foundation for opening
files on the web, where the browser delivers bytes rather than a path.
Native keeps the streaming `load_file` (lower memory on large drawings);
both share the post-load fixups. Builds on native and wasm.

wasm32 has no threads, so rayon's global pool would panic at runtime.
Add `crate::par::prelude`: native re-exports `rayon::prelude`, wasm
provides sequential `std`-iterator equivalents (par_iter / into_par_iter
/ flat_map_iter over slices, Vec, HashMap, HashSet). All call sites now
`use crate::par::prelude::*;` instead of rayon directly.
- wire_gpu's rayon `reduce` (2-arg, no std equivalent) is cfg-split to
a sequential flat_map concat on wasm.
- rayon moves to a non-wasm target dependency.
Native still runs in parallel; all 75 tests pass. wasm bin compiles.

First step toward a web build: the library now compiles for
wasm32-unknown-unknown with --no-default-features.
- Add a `solid3d` feature (default on) gating truck-meshalgo /
truck-shapeops / lzma-sys. These pull vtkio → xz2 → lzma-sys (C),
which cannot cross-compile to wasm. Without the feature the 3-D
solid path (tessellation, booleans, ACIS import) becomes no-ops;
2-D CAD is unaffected. Native builds keep the feature by default.
- Move native-only crates (ureq, open) to non-wasm target deps and
add cfg shims: update-check is a no-op on wasm, and a new `sys`
module provides open_url + handle_path (rfd FileHandle → PathBuf;
synthesizes a name-based path on the web).
Native build + all 75 tests unchanged. Browser runtime wiring
(entry point, trunk, real file I/O) is a follow-up.

Move the 30 flat modules under src/scene/ into six folders by role:
convert (entity→geometry), text (fonts/shaping), model (render models),
pick (hit-test/selection/grips/xclip), view (camera/transform/render),
cache (block + property caches). pipeline/ is unchanged.
Full path migration — all `scene::X` references become
`scene::<group>::X`, no compatibility re-exports. render.rs items that
were `pub(super)` (parent was scene) become `pub(in crate::scene)` to
keep their original scene-wide visibility.
No behavior change; build and tests are green.
