Close the no-load-callback gap: on_notification was a dead dispatch sink —
a plugin had no way to learn that the active document changed, the selection
changed, or that a document opened, so runtime designations could not be
re-seeded after a load.
Dispatch the existing plain variants at the fingerprint-guarded boundaries
the v4 bridge already uses: DocumentChanged (the active tab's settled
geometry epoch) and SelectionChanged (the selection set) leave through
BuiltinPlugin::on_notification at the post-message boundary — after the
mutation settles and pending history scopes closed, never mid-undo or
mid-pick — and at the automation post-op boundary. Plugin-initiated writes
publish immediately after settling, like the drawing-changed event; the
boundary fingerprint guard deduplicates.
Add the additive HostNotification::DocumentOpened { tab_id } variant
(discriminant 10, the counterpart of DocumentTabClosed): fired exactly once
per whole-document install — file open, template new, system open — keyed on
a new per-tab document generation, so an edit can never repeat it and a
reload fires it once. The API version stays v9 (the bump is unreleased).
Write semantics for handlers, tested and documented: a handler may call
HostApi write methods through the same session (set_reference_only at
minimum); its write bumps the epoch, the next boundary notifies once more,
and because re-marking already-designated geometry is a documented no-op —
no epoch bump, no undo step, no publish — the loop terminates. History
(undo/redo) replay itself emits nothing; the boundary is the only channel.
No Python mapping, like the rest of this increment.
Per the upstream review of the XDATA-based storage: the host no longer writes
its own state into the saved file. The marker record under the host-owned OCS
APPID, the on-first-use APPID registration and the verbatim-EED rewrite
handling are removed; the single source of truth is a scene-scoped in-memory
set of entity handles (Scene::reference_only) that dies with the drawing tab,
so a reopened file starts undesignated and the owning plugin re-marks on the
document-opened notification.
All behaviour sites are unchanged, driven by the set: the wire stamp moves
from an XDATA read to a set lookup threaded through the tessellation
pipelines (tessellate_entity and the dimension text path take the handle set
as a plain parameter), and the pick filters, selection retains and
update/erase refusals read Scene::is_reference_only.
Undo keeps the entity-write contract: set mutations are recorded as explicit
first-touch before/after values on each history delta (the parametric-
constraints channel pattern). A designation inside a plugin push_undo scope
joins it, a scope-less change is one step of its own, an idempotent re-mark
records nothing, erasing a designated entity drops the set entry with the
entity, and undo/redo restores entity and designation together.
The round-trip test is inverted: reference_only_designation_is_not_written_
to_dwg_or_dxf now asserts the marker appears in neither format's bytes, that
no OCS APPID or marker record survives a reload, and that the designation
stays live in memory.
Host side of HostApi::set_reference_only: plugin-owned display geometry that
renders and snaps normally but must not be edited or picked by the person at
the screen, while the owning plugin keeps full write access through the host.
- Storage: a human-readable marker value in an XDATA record under the
host-owned OCS APPID (registered on first use; foreign values survive
verbatim; stale verbatim DWG EED is dropped on rewrite), so the flag
round-trips DWG and DXF with the entity and cannot collide with plugin
APPID namespaces.
- Grips: refresh_selected_grips yields none for a reference-only entity and
an active grip edit on a newly designated target is cancelled like a
locked-layer one.
- Picking: a reference-only wire flag extends the snap_only skips in every
hit test, so a click passes through to the editable entity underneath, and
box, window, lasso, fence and select-all gathers skip the designation;
fills, solids and instanced meshes are excluded through the shared
candidate handle set.
- Write policy: built-in user paths treat a reference-only entity like a
locked-layer one (Scene::update_entity / update_entities refuse,
erase_entities skips), while the plugin-owned variants
(update_entity_plugin / erase_entities_plugin, mirroring the
remove_entities editor split) and the whole HostSession surface write
through. The MCP entities read exposes a top-level reference_only boolean
and set_properties refuses with the reference_only failure code.
- Undo: the entity-write contract - a change joins a plugin-opened push_undo
scope, a scope-less change is one undo step of its own, refusals and
idempotent re-marks record nothing.
- Known limit: entities nested inside block instances (the block cache
rebuilds instance wires without the flag).
Evidence: marking_flags_and_unmarking_clears,
foreign_values_under_the_host_app_id_survive, other_apps_are_untouched,
reference_only_refusals_record_no_undo_step,
reference_only_designation_composes_undo_like_entity_writes,
reference_only_survives_dxf_and_dwg_round_trips,
user_paths_refuse_and_plugin_paths_write_reference_only_entities,
select_all_visible_skips_reference_only_entities,
clicks_pass_through_reference_only_wires,
box_selections_skip_reference_only_wires,
entities_records_expose_the_reference_only_designation.
HostSession::update_entity, update_entities_transaction and remove_entity mutate entities and republish the document view, but never rebuild the app-side selection caches the way the built-in edit paths do. A selected entity updated by a plugin kept its cached grip markers at their pre-edit positions until the next real selection event; regen did not help and HostApi::set_selection cannot work around it (it bypasses the grip cache).
Refresh the grip cache for the session tab after a successful update_entity / update_entities_transaction / remove_entity, mirroring the built-in ERASE path and the other editors, so a plugin-driven edit keeps the cached grips on the refreshed geometry. A session targeting a background tab leaves the active tab cache untouched (found by the civil plugin manual QA, 2026-10-12).
new src/scene/block_service.rs (references, delete, rename, purge candidates, name validation, one error type and message). The command-line RENAME, palette Remove, plugin API, control/MCP block_delete and PURGE all use it. Layout, xref, dynamic-block, anonymous and open-in-editor records are protected; PURGE removes an anonymous block only when nothing references it. PROTOCOL CHANGE: control/MCP block_delete refuses a referenced block unless force=true (erases referencing INSERTs in one undo step). New REST route DELETE /api/v1/blocks/{name}?force=true. MCP tool digest re-pinned. Undo labels are Delete block X, Rename block X to Y and Purge.
The internal per-call push_undo fractured plugin-composed operations:
history has no nested scopes, so each push finished the plugin's
still-pending scope and opened its own — an operation of several
writes became several undo steps and the plugin's label was lost
(measured: 3 creates + update + delete in one scope = 5 steps).
Follow the entity-write contract instead: a mutation inside a
plugin-opened push_undo scope joins it, so the whole operation is a
single undo step under the plugin's label; a scope-less mutation opens
and finishes its own scope, keeping one undo step per call; refusals
record no undo step in either regime. Document the contract on the
trait methods and the host docs; the composition experiment becomes
the permanent xrecord_writes_join_a_plugin_initiated_undo_scope test.
Add create/read/update/delete/list for XRecord objects under
named-object-dictionary paths to the plugin HostApi, with five additive
PluginRequest/PluginResponse variants, dispatch through the shared
handler, in-process HostSession methods and both out-of-process proxies.
- dictionary paths walk from the NOD root; create seeds missing
dictionaries (ensure_image_dictionary bootstrap) and refuses existing
names; update refuses missing ones; refusals precede the undo step
- entry group codes validated (1..=369, never 5/105); payload content is
the plugin's own
- each mutating call is one undo step: the pending history snapshot
restores the objects map byte-exactly, auto-created dictionaries
included (tested)
- typed entries survive DWG and DXF write/reload round-trips (tested);
update drops verbatim raw bytes so saves emit the new content
- bump API_VERSION 7 -> 8 with the build.rs version_info in lockstep,
mirroring the v7 addition; MIN_SUPPORTED stays 3
The edge-stack closure duplicated dock_panel_visible arm-for-arm; it now delegates (tab is provably the active tab at that site). Ribbon.layer_names was written but never read outside one test; deleted, test reads via layer_infos. Faces and combo-refresh sub-items investigated and dropped (already unified upstream; no live stale path). Tests: dock visibility parity pins incl. Start-tab. Full suite: 2046 passed / 0 failed / 25 ignored, zero warnings.
rename_style_storage and rename_symbol rewrote entities and table rows but left dimtxsty stale, so the next Apply resolved a NULL handle. The follow now lives in both shared functions; the plugin workaround is removed as redundant. Tests: text_rename_follows_dimtxsty drives the manager path (RED first); pre-existing plugin rename test stays green via the shared path. Full suite: 2015 passed / 0 failed / 25 ignored.
ensure_layer had started trimming the name, so an entity on " A" got a
table entry "A" it never resolves to. Register the name as given again
and drop the unused return value. The five copies of the dirty-flag check
become sync_registered_layers.

Codec: PRs #71-#74 merged (MPOLYGON layout, multiline ATTDEF/ATTRIB DXF,
DXF MATERIAL/ACSH matrix, restorable SAT/SAB + history roots) and issues
#55 #64-#69 fixed. EntityType now boxes Surface, Extended, Table,
MultiLeader and Helix (2344 B -> 848 B per entity): construction sites
wrap in Box, the entity traits forward through Box, and the python
plugin generator converts with into(). Kernel: PR #70 (cuboid ring
winding).

Bug:
The typed ensure_plugin_state helper and the object-safe trait method
it wraps turned two recoverable conditions into process deaths. On the
in-process host, the helper downcast the stored state with
.expect("plugin state type mismatch for plugin_id"), so registering
state under one plugin_id as one type and later asking for another
(e.g. a reloaded plugin version changes the type while the per-tab
state map survives) panicked the host. On out-of-process hosts
(ipc/client.rs, ipc/v4/client.rs) and on NullHost, the trait method
itself was implemented as a bare panic!("ensure_plugin_state is not
supported for out-of-process plugins..."), so any out-of-process
plugin calling the documented helper crashed its own runner process -
even though the sibling plugin_state_any and plugin_state_any_mut
methods on those same implementations already degrade to None
gracefully. The helper also used .expect("init called once") on the
initialiser closure.
Reproduce:
1. Out-of-process: a plugin whose runner calls ensure_plugin_state
(&mut host, "my.id", ...).
2. Type mismatch: in an in-process plugin, ensure state under one id
as u32, then ensure a different type under the same id.
3. Before: step 1 kills the plugin runner at the trait panic; step 2
kills the host at the downcast expect. After: both get None, keep
running, and existing state is untouched.
Fix:
Give the trait method a failure channel: ensure_plugin_state_any now
returns Option<&mut (dyn Any + Send + Sync)>, mirroring the sibling
plugin_state_any_mut on the same implementations, and the typed helper
returns Option<&mut T> (any?.downcast_mut). The panicking
implementations (ipc v3, ipc v4, NullHost, and the three never-called
test dummies) return None; the in-process app host wraps its real
storage in Some with unchanged insert-or-return semantics. The init
closure is now guarded by take() with a unit-Any fallback, so even an
implementation invoking it twice fails the typed downcast instead of
panicking. Object safety, argument types and vtable slot are
unchanged; external plugin sources get a compile error at the helper
and adopt Option handling on rebuild. Regression tests use catch_unwind
so they compile against both signatures: one per panic site (out-of-
process, NullHost, type mismatch), each additionally asserting the
None result and that pre-existing state survived.
The codec and kernel repositories and crates are renamed opencadcodec and
opencadkernel. Inside OCS they are depended on under short keys, so code
reads `codec::`, `kernel::` and the new `graph::` (opencadgraph, the node
graph engine). File-format and protocol spellings stay as they were: the
ACIS product id `acadrust`, the ACADRUST_* switches and the plugin
version keys `acadrust_version` / `acadrust_source`.
A button left of MCP on the command line opens a translucent node graph
over the viewport, with a palette of object, input, math, logic, list,
text and geometry nodes added by click or drag. An object node owns
drawing entities and its rows are the Properties panel's own rows for
them: the single-object page is extracted from refresh_properties as
entity_property_sections, values use the control protocol's
property_json, and writes go through set_property_value with a property
target override, so the panel, MCP and the graph share one read/write
path. A list reaching an object row makes one entity per element. Each
graph action is one undo step; the canvas pans and zooms.

Brings in the DXF round-trip fixes merged as cadcodec #48 and #51 and the
block-definition fixes for cadcodec issues #49 and #52. cadkernel moved to
the same codec revision first, so the graph keeps a single acadrust. The
Python plugin, which is outside the workspace, has its own lock moved too:
its staging script requires the plugin and the host to share one acadrust
source.
The canaries that asserted the old wrong results were flipped against the
real-IPC audits, all 60 of which pass with the plugin built: Helix, Light,
Underlay, ViewBorder and SectionSymbol now round-trip through DXF, as do the
text style flags, the dimension style's text style name, the block
description, the table's merged ranges and the leader's annotation link and
vectors. Those five kinds move to Complete in the coverage ledger.
Two narrower gaps stay pinned. The ATTDEF writer emits no group 280, so
`lock_position` is still lost on a DXF save; every other field now
survives. A true-colour leader `override_color` cannot be held by DXF group
77, which takes an ACI index, and the DWG writer does not store it.
Behaviour change for users: a text style's oblique angle is now written to
DXF in degrees, as the format defines it. DXF files written by earlier
versions carry radians there and reopen with a much smaller slant.

The bundled `opencad.python` plugin drives OCS through plugin API v7: all
43 canvas entity kinds, the drawing tables, and OCS's own commands run
step by step. RustPython stays in the plugin process — the plugin crate is
outside the workspace with its own lock file, so the application's own
dependencies are unchanged.
Reconciled with the plugin command work that landed as #1425, which the
branch was written before:
- Both added `impl Drop for PluginProcessInteractiveAdapter`, which git
merges silently into two impls that do not compile. One body now
cancels the command and then drops it from the runner, in that order: a
plugin waiting on a step has to be released before the runner forgets
the command.
- `execute_command` (#1425) and `run_command` (#1423) are both routes from
a script to the command line, and only the second was guarded. The
SCRIPTCOMMANDS switch and the denylist are shared now, so neither route
is the unguarded one.
- `run_command` dispatched with plugin dispatch still enabled, so a script
naming a plugin command re-entered the plugin that was blocked waiting
for it. It sets the suppression flag for the length of the dispatch, as
`execute_command` does.
The denylist read the command as typed, while the dispatcher resolves
aliases: a user-defined `Q` for `QUIT` (ALIASEDIT writes those) walked
past it. It resolves the alias first.
Also: the active-command comparison ran on every message, a mouse move
included, allocating two strings for names that are already `&'static
str`; SCRIPTCOMMANDS' own messages go through the translation macros; and
`docs/.DS_Store` (now ignored) and an unrelated RTF note about constraint
commands are out of the tree.

Direct distance entry (#1429) turned every bare number at a point prompt
into a distance, so ROTATE's angle and the values automation types were
read as coordinates. The step reads the token first now — `feed_command`
reports whether it claimed it — and only an unclaimed one becomes a
distance. That also puts the token back on the unified step driver, which
owns the P / L selection keywords and the dimension-snap bookkeeping, and
stops `on_text_input` running twice for the same token. A tracking ray
carries its own base, so it no longer demands an anchor that the first
point of a command does not have yet.
Plugin command execution (#1425) re-implemented the command line inside
the plugin host: it dispatched families directly, skipping the teardown
that starts a command (grip edits, selection gestures, `last_point`, the
accepted snaps), and made every `CmdResult::Dispatch` in the application
skip plugin dispatch to avoid its own re-entrancy. A scripted line now
runs through `run_command_line`, with the trailing Enter left off while
the plugin streams the command, and the re-entrancy is handled by a flag
set for the length of the plugin's call. A pause parks the line's Enter
with the rest of its tokens instead of dropping it.
A font reference (#1432) tried the family lookup before the face-file
index, and that lookup ends in a prefix match a longer file name loses to
(`ISOCPEUI.TTF` would take `ISOCP`). The exact file answers first.

On Windows the temp directory has backslashes, which a Python string literal reads
as escape sequences (C:\Users is a unicode escape), so the RasterImage and OLE
lifecycle tests could not even create their entity. Windows accepts forward slashes.
Found by the first Windows run of the fork build workflow; Linux passed all 60.

A saved user preference (on by default) toggled by the SCRIPTCOMMANDS command
gates HostApi::run_command; Cancel stays allowed so a waiting command is never
stranded. The runner refuses the SCRIPTCOMMANDS command itself, so a script
cannot change it. Documents why no helper-thread or stack-growing dependency was
added: native builds link with at least 8 MiB, the nesting depth is fixed, and the
deepest step found needs 2 to 4 MiB in a debug build.

Drop two unneeded mut bindings in tests and mark the generated dict/enum
converters allow(dead_code), since a kind can leave one unused.

polyline_close/open/width/reverse/join (a line or arc is turned into a polyline
first), array_path and array_3d, written against observed prompts and checked
for exact geometry in the real-IPC audit. Polylines default their pick point to
the first vertex. The audit runs on a large-stack thread because PEDIT's
line-to-polyline step needs more than a test thread's 2 MiB in a debug build.

The generated dict-to-struct conversions for nested records defaulted every
absent field and ignored unknown keys, so an LwPolyline built from
{'x': .., 'y': ..} vertices became zero-coordinate vertices. They now refuse an
unknown key (naming the keys the record takes) and a manifest list,
required_struct_fields, enforces the fields that define a nested record's
geometry (vertex locations, hatch edge ends and centres, section symbol points).
Regression test over real IPC; every existing lifecycle audit still passes.

Each is written against the prompt sequence observed in the exploration harness
and checked for exact geometry in the real-IPC audit. HATCH is left to
create_entity because its command needs an interactive boundary pick.

HostApi::run_command drives the real OCS command through the same primitives
the automation channel uses, synchronously on the host thread: run a line,
start a command and answer point/text/token/entity/selection/enter prompts, or
cancel (closing anything the command opened). Refused while another command is
active, for a denylist (QUIT, NEW, OPEN, SAVE*, PY_* ...) and off the active tab.
Python: doc.command, doc.start_command and doc.modify (offset, trim, extend,
fillet, move, copy, rotate, scale, mirror, erase). Real-IPC audit checks exact
geometry for every wrapper plus guards and undo; IPC and Python unit tests; docs.

TableOperation gains simple-linetype create/modify/rename/delete (standard names
taken, rename follows layers and entities, guarded delete) and paper-space
layout create/rename/delete/set-current/set-page (default page setup and sheet
viewport, the application's own layout switch, Model protected). CTAB now reports
the current layout. Real-IPC audit with DWG/DXF persistence and undo, IPC and
Python unit tests, docs.

BlockEntityAdd adds a validated entity to a block definition (owner set by the
host, same validation as a model-space entity, self-nesting inserts refused),
reusing the scene's block-editor routing. Deleting a block member now also
drops its handle from the block record. Real-IPC audit with an attribute
definition inside a block, DWG/DXF persistence and undo; IPC and Python unit
tests; docs.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
TableOperation gains BlockCreate (copy entities into a definition shifted by the
base point, optionally erasing originals), BlockModify, BlockRename (inserts
follow) and BlockDelete (refused while referenced; removes members, markers and
orphaned draw-order tables). Real-IPC audit with DWG/DXF persistence and undo,
IPC and Python unit tests, docs; the DXF loss of the block description is pinned
by a canary.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Extends TableOperation with text style create/modify, dimension style
create/modify (DimStyle fields as a validated JSON object), rename, delete and
set-current. Reuses OCS's style in-use scan and reference-following rename
(four style_ops methods widened to pub(super)); a renamed text style also
updates dimension styles that name it. Real-IPC audit with DWG/DXF persistence
and undo, IPC and Python unit tests, docs. Four cadcodec findings are pinned by
canaries.

Adds the additive v7 TableOperation request and HostApi::table_operation for
layer create/modify/rename/delete/set-current. Refusals are decided before the
undo step is recorded. Python wrapper, real-IPC audit with DWG/DXF persistence,
IPC round-trip test, Python unit test and docs.

- The acadrust DXF reader has converted ATTRIB/ATTDEF rotation to radians
since f226110 (in every codec rev OCS pinned from 2026-08-08 on), while
fix_dxf_dimension_rotations still applied to_radians a second time on
load. Only Shape needs the conversion here. Surfaced by #1391's hunk.
- Shape-file text styles are found by their is_shape_file flag instead of
an empty name (also from #1391).
- #1393's add_layer/modify_layer wrote an unresolved linetype name into
the LAYER record; a name the drawing (plus the standard set) cannot
supply is now refused, through one resolve_linetype helper.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A scripted RasterImage now reuses one ImageDefinition per file and registers
it in ACAD_IMAGE_DICT, which owns it, as for an AutoCAD-attached image. The
reactor is deliberately not written because its owner convention cannot be
verified. An ignored spike records that OCS's own IMAGE command creates bare
images that lose their file path on save.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The shared driver now activates the layout that owns a viewport and requires
a drawn frame. The host assigns a unique id of at least 2 and derives
custom_scale as height / view_height on every scripted create or edit, as
MVIEW does, so custom_scale is read-only. A control showed the default id 0
is not invisible, so the id matters for uniqueness.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
EmbedPicture builds the frame with OCS's own EmbeddedImage and
build_embedded_ole, so the opaque storage is never scripted. PNG, JPEG and
BMP are stored as read and other formats are re-encoded as PNG. The lifecycle
test now creates through Python; a new test covers formats, aspect, origin,
layer and refusals.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
points is canonical; the host derives the point counts and refreshes the
end/tick/label projections with sync_display_fields when it changes, and
validates that style and view-representation references are existing class
objects. The lifecycle test passes every gate in DWG; DXF reopens the symbol
as an unknown entity because cadcodec dispatches SECTIONLINE only inside
blocks (pinned by a canary and already in the cadcodec write-up).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
SolidOperation::Boolean runs synchronously, surfaces the kernel's refusal
with a plain reason and leaves the operands untouched, consumes them on
success unless keep_operands, and records one undo step. The lifecycle test
uses planar boxes with exact volumes and covers chaining, refusals, both
formats and undo; an ignored test shows a curved refusal reaching the script.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Adds SurfaceFromProfile and Extrude kernel operations (doc.solids.surface and
doc.solids.extrude), accepts surfaces in Transform, and maps Surface with
editable isolines. Fixes a real bug found by the test: the surface kind field
overwrote the entity-type kind key in Python dicts, so it is exposed as
surface_kind, with a catalog test guarding against name collisions.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
RegionFromProfile reuses the REGION command's kernel calls; doc.solids.region
exposes it with layer and delete_source options. The lifecycle test builds
regions from real circle and polyline entities and covers refusals, a move,
both formats and undo. create_entity now accepts coordinate tuples for point
properties and every generated float setter accepts Python ints.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
An additive HostApi::solid_operation builds cadkernel primitives and applies
rigid transforms, verifying each result lifts back losslessly and refusing a
payload it cannot lift. Exposed as doc.solids in Python; Solid3D, Body and
Region are mapped read-only with the opaque payload preserved. The lifecycle
test passes through the real runner with analytic volumes and exact extents as
oracles, DWG and DXF reopen with re-edit, and undo restores exactly.
