bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 51ffaf9945 IGES 5.3 import and export; OBJ import; STL reading hardened
- IGES import (kernel iges_in, from the published specification). The file
is restated as STEP and read by the STEP reader, so an IGES file becomes
  the same Import base feature.
  - Manifold solid B-reps (186/514/510/508/504/502).
  - Trimmed (144), bounded (143) and bare B-spline surfaces, sewn into a
solid by shared edges, with face orientation made consistent.
  - Curves: lines, arcs, ellipses, composite and rational B-spline curves.
  - Surfaces: planes, analytic surfaces 190-198, B-spline surfaces,
surfaces of revolution and tabulated cylinders.
  - Transformations, units, colours, names (406 form 15 or labels).
Open, insert and drop .igs/.iges like STEP.
- IGES export (kernel iges_out): each body as a manifold solid B-rep on the
surfaces a STEP export uses, with name properties and colours.
  ExportCommand to .igs.
- OBJ import as mesh bodies: objects/groups, polygons fanned, negative
  indices, bad lines reported.
- STL: binary files whose header starts with "solid" and those with a zero
triangle count read as binary; non-finite vertices dropped; facet
normals ignored; ASCII with non-UTF-8 names. Mesh bodies get consistent
winding (stray inverted facets turned over).
- Tests: primitives and features round-trip through IGES (volume, area,
name, colour). Six trimmed patches sew into a closed box. Hostile IGES,
OBJ and STL inputs never panic. STL quirks. The engine exports a design
to IGES and opens it again. All 76 oracle parts round-trip through IGES
  with matching volume (local check).

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 7a2eb059c4 Components are frames (user bug #4)
What a component holds moves with its occurrence, and picks in the world land in the
component's frame:
- Sketches and construction planes show where their component is placed (free move, joint
drive, Capture Position); sketch.inspect reports sketch points in the world.
- frames.rs maps a command's world picks into the frame of the body they lie on (through the
inverse of its placement: a moved component or a pasted instance), points that make new
geometry into the active component's frame, and directions with them; instance body names
  ("Body1 (Pin:2)") become the component's body. Fillet/chamfer edges, shell/offset/draft
faces, face extrude/revolve, sketch on face, holes, sheet metal and plastic picks, primitives,
appearance faces, analyses. Once per command (not again for commands run by commands); the
active-frame fallback stays for commands without a table. Nothing changes while every
  placement is the identity.
- component.move_bodies keeps a body where it is in the world (Document.body_offsets: from the
new component's frame to the one it was made in; renames and deleted components follow).
- The UI reads the placed model (Session::world_state) for display, picking, sketch editing and
dialogs; live previews use it once anything is placed.
Tests (engine): sketches and construction planes move (and turn) with the component; world
picks fillet, sketch, hole and make boxes in a moved component; a pick on a pasted instance;
move_bodies keeps the world place there and back; a sketch on a face follows a Move feature.
QA's s34 now runs.

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 23d38fab97 STEP export: read the file back only when faces were merged
The read-back check (fallback to unmerged pieces) imported every export.
Now it runs only when some body actually had faces merged. Oracle 41
(42 faces, nothing merged): export no longer re-imports, which saved 7 s.
Pipe flange (merges): 1.1 s for the read-back.

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 294597cc96 Face colours and opacity in STEP and 3MF export (and STEP import)
- Bodies carry a Paint for export (opacity, per-face colours), set by
Document::painted from the appearance model. The paint comes from a
  face appearance, a body/component appearance's opacity or a material
look (Glass), and falls back to the paint the body was imported with.
- STEP: faces with colours of their own get a STYLED_ITEM on their
  ADVANCED_FACE. See-through looks add SURFACE_STYLE_TRANSPARENT.
Differently coloured pieces are not merged into one face.
- STEP import reads face styles and transparency. The reader tracks the
file face of each kernel face (bands split in two keep it), so imported
face colours land on the right faces; the design shows them through
  face_colors.
- 3MF: per-triangle colours (pid/p1 into the base materials, carried
through welding) and the object's alpha (#RRGGBBAA).
- Tests: a blue half-transparent cube with a red top exports, re-imports
with its opacity and the red top face, and keeps it when opened and
exported again. 3MF writes the alpha and the face entry.

Harness: manipulator handles published by name (scenario::publish_handle; ui.at {handle}; timeline items as timeline:<name>), restart after a crash or close, autosave into the scenario's folder, exact widget text before menu-label prefixes, checks for sketch curves, body volume and sketch points in the world

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 0a1b6f0fff STEP export: pieces of a plane or extruded cylinder written as one face
Fusion round trip WARNs on face counts:
- 48: the pulley's annular end faces arrived as 240° and 120° sectors.
- 54: the side faces and holes of a body glued to its mirror image came
  in halves.

Changes:
- Planes merge: PLANE faces and flat B-spline sheets, as well as revolved
planes. A plane keeps several loops (an annulus, a face with holes), no
seam. Flat B-spline sheets are written as PLANE.
- Pieces of an extruded cylinder (B-spline sheets) merge when their edges
are circles square to the axis. The merged face is written as a
CYLINDRICAL_SURFACE, with its parameter seam on the face's seam edge.
- A full turn's loop is built explicitly: ring, seam, other ring (or the
apex on the axis), seam back. Before, it depended on edge order, and
after 81c85b5 the pulley's last pieces no longer merged.
- The read-back check moved to the whole file. If the merged file reads
with warnings and the unmerged one does not, the unmerged one is
  written.

Results: 48 has 12 faces (Fusion 12), 54 has 12 (Fusion 12). Oracle
results are unchanged (73 PASS) and the STEP corpus passes 76/76. New
test: a plate with a hole glued to its mirror exports 8 faces, all
planes and cylinders, and round-trips.

Joint dialog: picked origins mate as in Fusion, B's z opposite A's (two top faces put B upside
down on A, not inside it; a pin goes into its hole); the dialog's Flip turns B the other way
(sent as the command's flip, which turns B over from coinciding frames). Edit Joint shows the
same. Found by solvecraft-sketchux's scenarios.

Drive Joints: the first value box takes the keyboard with its text selected when the dialog
opens, so typing 90 and Enter drives the joint (found by solvecraft-sketchux).

Appearance: "In This Design" from appearance.list (in_design) when the engine has it; faces are
sent as face targets once the engine knows them.

Tests: face snaps mate face to face and Flip undoes it; typing into Drive Joints drives.

Library swatches by category (the engine's library when it offers one, else built-in looks:
metals, plastics, paints, woods, glass with opacity), the looks in this design, a colour picker
and opacity, and the objects to apply to (bodies/components or faces). A swatch dragged onto a
body or face in the viewport, or onto a body's row in the Browser, applies at once; Apply and
OK give the picked objects the current look; pre-selected bodies become the objects.

Browser: rows under a drag of another kind count as hovered, and the Browser's own drops no
longer swallow other payloads (egui's take_payload takes any type), so swatches dropped on its
rows land.

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 81c85b553c Booleans are deterministic: result faces keep their shell's order
truck's connected components came out in hash order of face addresses, so a
boolean's faces, and everything built on them (fillet bands, STEP entity
order), changed from run to run. That made the oracle 35 export differ run to
run. Its old step_export flakes came from the orientation check's drifting
search, removed in 2db9e66. The result's shells and faces now keep the
order of the shell they come from (vendored truck-shapeops). Oracle results
are unchanged (73 PASS before and after). Test: the tee of oracle 35 with its
junction fillet exports byte-identical three times in one process (it failed
before).

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 d5b8aa0375 User scenarios in the real UI, headless: scenario::Harness draws the app frame by frame into an egui context and drives it with control-channel input (toolbar starts, clicks on world/sketch/origin-plane/axis points, keys, typing, drags) and checks the model; tests/scenarios/*.json: box with fillets, shell and hole; revolve on XZ; sketch on a face and cut; mirror; delete and undo. Control: ui.at, ui.dialogInput. Fixes found by them: a shape started on an existing point (the origin, a corner) is tied to it; the Dimension tool's value is edited in place with the value selected, so typing replaces it

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 62dbf60eb2 Fix OK lost while a joint animates; Browser Joints folder inside the root component
Clicking OK during the Joint dialog's motion animation was lost about half the time: the
preview's busy spinner came and went in the dialog footer between frames, shifting the
automatic ids of OK and Cancel, so a click pressed in one frame and released in the next landed
on two different ids. The spinner's place is now always taken. Reproduced through the control
channel (6 of 14 OK clicks at different animation phases lost before, 0 of 14 after) and
covered by a test that presses OK with the preview busy and releases it once idle.

The Joints folder is drawn by component_rows for the root, after its folders (as agreed with
solvecraft-shell).

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 bdc15d2204 Start page and document tabs
Start page (shown on launch without a file, and from the house button in the application bar):
New Design, Open, recent designs (kept in the preferences, newest first) and built-in samples,
each card with a picture rendered from the design in the background. Samples are scripts of
engine commands: the sample plate plus a sheet metal bracket, a hinge assembly with a revolute
joint, a plastic enclosure (lip, bosses, rest, snap fit), a bolted flange with a parametric
circular pattern and a vent plate with a parametric rectangular pattern (test: all build
without a failing feature).

Several open designs as tabs in the application bar: each keeps its own session (undo,
selection), camera and hidden/shown items; + and Ctrl+N open a new design, opening a file or a
sample uses a new tab unless the current design is blank, closing a tab with unsaved changes
asks Save / Don't Save / Cancel. Control channel: ui.documents and ui.home (docs/control-protocol.md).

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 8ea38bc518 STEP export: undo face merging for a body when the merged faces do not read back cleanly
With solvecraft-repo's curved-edge fillets (d72ec38), oracle 40's torus
groove comes out of truck in three pieces. Merging them made a band round the
torus whose single loop crosses itself, and the reader could not lay it out
("unsupported seam loop layout (2 runs)"). Each body's merged B-rep is now
read back. If that gives warnings and the unmerged pieces read cleanly, the
pieces are written instead.

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 ae4570ed39 Colours in exports from materials and appearances; Appearance command
- Bodies export (STEP, 3MF) in the colour they are shown in: an appearance,
else the physical material's look, else the colour the body was imported
with (Document::body_color / painted). Physical materials used to export
  no colour at all.
- AppearanceCommand (Modify): a colour per body ("#rrggbb" or [r, g, b];
null follows the material again), kept in the design and across renames.
- Material looks move to solvecraft-doc (material_color); the viewport draws
appearance, material or imported colour, as exported.
- Engine test: brass and red ABS bodies export, re-import with their RGB, and
keep it through open and export again.

bherbruckandClaude Opus 5.5 f6b42f8750 Sketch drag feel like Fusion (sketch.drag): the grabbed point goes exactly to the cursor, a line (spline, conic) slides with it, a circle or arc grabbed on its edge changes radius about its centre (an ellipse its minor radius), the centre moves the circle; the grabbed geometry is held while the rest moves as little as it can; fixed and fully constrained geometry stays. Dragging a curve of the sketch being edited now drags it (it used to start a box selection). Tests for per-entity fully-constrained feedback
